Coaching errors from our 1 yard line

Sep 21, 2021, 9:13 PM

#1 get QB under center in that situation at end of game #2 if not let QB run ball not risking a handoff and fumble #3 don’t have Braden Galloway trying to block as they threw him around like a rag doll (where was Davis or Lay)

Like Peyton said last night on MNF...

Much more likely to fumble the QB/Center exchange than shotgun.

I agree with you, DJ up the middle.

No idea what Gallaway was doing on the play.

More likely to fumble shotgun, NOT under the center

Sep 21, 2021, 9:34 PM

Much simpler and shorter distance, many times I have seen QB's line up in shotgun, then rush to under center for short sneak, and it was always successful in college and pros. This ought to be practiced over and over until they get it down, so that play will be successful.

That's what I thought, Peyton said the exact opposite***

I don’t know why he didn’t just run around for a few seconds then throw it 20 yards out of bounds. We have that play locked in.

Didn’t you hear? We don’t go under center.

Sep 21, 2021, 9:31 PM

Which evidently means that we aren’t open to ever doing it, even if it makes sense. Because, you know, we don’t do that.

Who are we to question? Our coaches won two national championships, after all.

that COMMON SENSE change.

Maybe he might discover that your entire offense can be run from under center and shifting in or out of that and running any number of plays is allowed.

We aren’t that flexible on offense.

Sep 21, 2021, 9:41 PM

Only the same formations and plays are allowed.

Who are we to question the coaches? They have won two national championships, after all.

Re: Coaching errors from our 1 yard line

Taking the intentional delay-of-game was my biggest criticism. When I saw them doing that, I thought that would come back to bite them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A couple things…

Sep 21, 2021, 9:44 PM

1) QBs are statistically more likely to fumble than RBs.
2) The RB wasn’t tackled in the end zone, he made it out. The safety was the result of the RB fumbling on the 1 and the ball being recovered in the end zone.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t have the ability to go under center, but blaming the safety on the formation, or calling it a coaching error, seems incorrect here.

Your response and assessment is 100% correct. The play was not designed to do exactly what we needed to do and then fumble

What does that play have to do with the outcome of the game?
