Coach Streeter

Jan 1, 2022, 4:26 PM

After listening to Coach Streeter's interview, it is easy to understand why Dabo promoted him. If your son was a high school player, wouldn't you feel good about him playing for Coach Streeter?

No. So, I didn't watch his interview, but I'm sure Streeter is a good guy. But For elite players, football is a career, and you want to go to the program/coaches that prepare you best for said career. That's why Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State dominate recruiting, despite having coaches that are horrible people. They do a great job preparing players for the NFL. Streeter's had a couple hits, mainly because we recruited two QBs that were considered by everyone to be future first rounders, and then had a bunch of misses. So were I the father of an elite player, I would consider this far before I considered how nice he may or may not be. I'm a Clemson grad, but I don't consider the Clemson experience as worthwhile enough to risk my son being damaged like DJ, Taisun, Hunter, or Zerrick. I'd be very inclined to push my son toward Riley or a more proven offensive mind.

It's the same reason I would have pushed a defensive lineman towards Clemson the past few years.

Good god....who damaged DJ, Puma, HJ and Cooper? Being a bit dramatic aren't you. Is it possible that no one was damaged and those guys just weren't as good as their star rating? Really the only guy that fits that bill is HJ. He wasn't good enough to see the field here and hasn't looked good at Northwestern either. Cooper had a great career at a smaller school and throwing the ball was always a question with Puma even with a 4 star rating. DJ had a rough year personally and athletically....the OL didn't do him any favors either so the jury is still out on him. Streeter has not "damaged" anyone.

I would not go so far as “damage” however, player development has been a major issue across the board on the offensive side (QB, O-Line and WR’s) over the past few years. Our recruiting on that side as well, probably since Jeff Scott left.

Hard truth - no competent starting QB and no backup that could replace the starter. We went from WRU to WRPhew. Several of our incoming recruits are a very significant upgrade to what we currently have (QB and WR’s). Hopefully the coaching and player development will improve with the newbies.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Rattler was top 30 QB statistically at the time. He just had one of the 3-5 best QBs in college football behind him. It happens. We'll see how Rattler's mechanics look next year.

DefOrangutan.....thank you for clearly stating my point about the recent coaching changes, especially on the defense. Conn and Godwin may both be good men who are very knowledgeable but there is nothing about them that resonates with the top recruits you need to have on your team to compete for CFB championships against the likes of Bama, Georgia and Ohio State. As you stated the top recruits want to be coached by coaches who have a proven track record of developing players to get to the NFL. If that coach has actual NFL playing experience that is even a bigger plus for them. Why do you think Coach Hobby was so successful at recruiting DLineman and Coach Reed is getting top CB recruits. If you and I understand this don't think high level recruits and their families aren't aware of it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And none of these coaches were proven until they were given a chance.

The pessimism of this board is unreal. You guys can't enjoy anything positive without focusing on, or creating negativity.

Most fathers aren’t fathers of elite players, just dads of hopeful student athletes.
I did listen to the interview.
I’m lucky I had the Clemson experience.
I had the UGA experience and the University of SC one too. No comparison

Jan 1, 2022, 6:33 PM

Had shown he was a great offensive kind, capable of taking it to the next level.

Streeter is taking over a train wreck and the plan is to change literally nothing about it.

Maybe Cade will mask some of the issues, and I’m sure Streeter is a great guy, but no one thinks as a purely football related move that this is smart. Staying in house on defense is smart, but that offensive staff should have been blown up completely.

If we'd made the playoffs this year because DJ actually played like we all thought he would have, this conversation would not even be happening. Biggest problem with their offense this year was that DJ became a head case and is looking like a bust. But who knows he may recover and do great before it's over with.

Jan 1, 2022, 6:28 PM

But wouldn’t it be hilarious if Streeter was actually an offensive guru and was just being a jerk last year, refusing to help Tony?

Tony: crucial third and long here… swing pass?
Streeter: lmao, sure

Tony: DJ is having really bad accuracy problems. Think we should call a ton of screens and abandon the run game?
Streeter: that’s what I was thinking, lol

Jan 5, 2022, 7:20 AM [ in reply to Re: Coach Streeter ]

You mean an actual “vertical” passing game, 10 or 20 yards down the field? That would take a QB that could consistently throw the ball accurately and WR’s that could separate and be willing to “go up and get it”. Also using our TE’s, and bring back the pre-snap motion and fake jet sweeps.

Our offense last year was as stale as a two week old donut, and the passing game of a similar shape - “0”.
