Climate change deniers I want you to watch this

Apr 28, 2022, 10:35 AM

and tell me what you think. Does this have any parallels to today? Scientists were hired to lie to you, so that corporations could make additional profits? I've heard arguments that humans can't affect something as large as the atmosphere. This same scenario is playing out right now. Interesting

You talking about Covid vaccines???

Leaded gas, tobacco, CFC, Sulfuric Acid

The point is man made climate change is real. Anyone that denies that just doesn't want to believe the truth.

I don't expect to get completely off of fossil fuels, but the sooner we lower it the better.

Re: clarify the last one, sulfur dioxide (acid rain) was covered

Apr 28, 2022, 12:18 PM

Yeah...but acid rain ultimately got fixed when we changed our smelting industry...as did the ozone layer, which is now busily repairing itself and should be back to optimal by the late 2030's because we stopped dumping CFC's into the atmosphere.

Carbon's a tougher sell because it's produced by more products, but it's hardly impossible. We're switching over to renewables.

The question is...can we do it fast enough to avoid cataclysmic damage?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

was the big driver in reducing acid rain. Something that can also be implemented with carbon emissions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: clarify the last one, SO2 ... props for recognizing CFCs

May 7, 2022, 3:42 PM [ in reply to Re: clarify the last one, sulfur dioxide (acid rain) was covered ]

Really late here; watched an Elizabeth Warren clip and went into an opiate haze ... just waking up.

I'm not going to start on you and the other TNet aficionados of man-made-CO2 climate change about that unproven theory.

Instead, I want to applaud those of you who recognized the CFC / "ozone hole" problem from decades ago. This was a case of real science that was correctly applied.

CFCs (or more accurately, bromo-carbons & chloro-bromo carbons & the 'classic' CFCs) have a catalytic effect with regard to the degradation of ozone.

Catalytic effect means that a very small amount of CFC will react again and again with ozone without the CFC actually being degraded itself in the reaction.

Man made pollutants which have a catalytic mechanism can (as is/was the case with CFCs) indeed impact the atmosphere in a tangible way.

Regards to all.

Cloud seeding can reduce global warming tremendously. Cloud cover is the only variable no one really factors in while discussing warming.

Yep. Try being a college professor that has research that states; man isn’t causing climate change. See what that does to your federally funded research.

Are there any climate change deniers left out there? I think

Apr 28, 2022, 11:56 AM

everyone agrees there is climate change? I also think that almost everyone agrees that humans contribute to it.

The rub is how much do humans contribute to it and is it enough to be concerned about for the next hundred years?

Also, how much should our government hinder private business in this country for something that may be irreversible unless the whole world buys in, especially China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and many African countries who have huge greenhouse gas emissions like us.

Russia's footprint is negligible, India still burns wood, so there is that. But consumption is the major driver here. 3rd world sweatshops would not be contributing to the problem if we did not live in a disposable consumer economy. Everything you buy increases your footprint, and we buy a lot of crap.

Right for climate action. It reinforces the coded messaging of radical environmental groups that climate change is basically a trojan horse for anti-capitalism -- which it is for them.

I'm not arguing whether you are right or wrong, but this is the biggest blocker of bipartisan support for proactive steps on climate.

I disagree with "radical environmental groups that climate change is basically a trojan horse for anti-capitalism"

That is a concept that has been conveyed to you through right wing media.

90% of this country loves capitalism. Plus no one has a true capitalist economy. There is benefit to regulation.

I invite them to have discussions with mayors and city councils of every coastal town in America, regardless of political affiliation. They'll find it's quite a bipartisan concern in those venues.
