Clemson's Undergraduate Admissions process is not

Feb 7, 2019, 9:41 AM

automated...

First son has been going through the process of applying for college this year. It seems odd to me that Clemson is one of the only schools where the process isn't entirely on-line.

Other schools - you can go online to see everything they've received so far (transcripts, SAT scores, etc). At Clemson, you have to call and ask.

I wonder why Clemson is a step behind everyone else in this particular arena?

applications, I guess.

Clemson only sends an email stating "we have everything we need" - without stating what it is exactly that they have...

Other schools - point and click your way easily to see which ACT/SAT scores they have, transcripts, etc...

Again, it just seems odd.

I'm sure it's partially because Clemson doesn't accept the Common Application....

It was so much better back in my day, where they used to have a university rep come to your high school and stand in the corridor and just point at you and say, "you're in". Intelligence used to have its own aura.

Alright, if you're an 'unparalleled genius'

Why does 'we have everything we need' require details of what they have? I mean...everything means...well...what it says! ;)

That's unparalleled SUPER genius...and, as such, I must be

overthinking it.

(I know you're kidding - but I seriously wanted to be sure Clemson had both SAT scores and not just the first one - since they are super-scoring them now.)

Maybe Clemson is a step ahead......

Just to be like every body else is never a reason to change what works.......

No, I think Clemson is a step behind on this one. ;)

Agree ... I'm 47 and have been working in the tech industry for 20+ years and I take full advantage of all new tech. I get annoyed when I have to use a pen, lick a stamp, and (shudder) ... write a check. When I have to do all three at once, it makes me flat angry. I had to go find a stamp one day last year. 2007 is the last time I purchased stamps. Thank goodness they were forever stamps.

Well dang, what am I going to do with my post hole digger?

Feb 7, 2019, 12:42 PM [ in reply to A shovel works for digging a post hole. But an auger ]

Do I really have to spend all that money to be like everyone else when what I’ve been doing for years works fine?

HTH.

If your son is a senior in high school...

Feb 7, 2019, 12:33 PM

he should receive his acceptance, bridge, or rejection letter by mid February.

You'll know then.

One thing you will discover is that they like doing things as cheaply as possible.

Its becoming a bit of a bureaucratic mess, and its the same slow good ol boy bureaucracy that gums up the state government too.

I don't remember the process or times when I applied as an undergrad transfer student back in 1999. I think I decided to transfer to Clemson in May and I remember going to the transfer orientation in June. So it had to take less than a month for my acceptance.

When I applied for grad school two summers ago. I applied on a Tuesday and got an email from the department admin on Friday saying that she had just put my official letter in the mail but wanted me to have a good weekend so she emailed me a scan of it. So less than three days from finished application to acceptance. Wouldn't have had time to check on the status or progress with it that quick, even if I had thought about checking.

Seems like your Mom could have just called you instead of wasting a school stamp on the letter.
