Clemson student-athlete monthly $5k+ questions

Apr 1, 2022, 8:48 PM

So the CU board passed a monthly payment of almost $6k per month. I don't understand this completely. Does every athlete get this $5k+ to include football, softball, basketball, even track, tennis, etc, etc?

Is this paid only during playing seasons or is this paid the entire school year?

Football players already got $4-500 stipend during the season. Do they get this $5k+ on top of their stipend??

Does NIL contracts change any of this school payday? What are other schools paying to student athletes? I assume the amount was max based on SC legislation, is UoSC paying the same $5+k?

This bs is out of control.

How do regular students feel about this?

Unfortunately it's happening and it's changing the landscape of my favorite sport. I watched half the college football this past season over the previous seasons. But the crazy NIL deals that Miami found and the crazy money that aTm is now throwing out, college football will never be the same.

I wish there was a semi-pro league and college was left as the original expected program. We have lost our sport as we knew it, hopefully it maintains a semblance of previous sport?

Be patient because nothing changed about college football last season. I doubt very seriously you will be able to see any changes because very few players will actually earn enough money to make a difference.

I saw a certain QB go from a seemingly very talented player to out of shape and dressing like Cam Newton after signing roughly half a million dollars in NIL deals. How do you think the blue collar OLine felt about that disparity in their pay vs the QB's? You're talking 18-22 yo kids. It's definitely changing the sport for the worse. College football won't be recognizable in 5 years.

You’re right. It changes things, and it’s not good. But…

My prediction is some of them like Texas A&M will fail miserably despite the money they are throwing around, and that will be fascinating to watch.

I hear ya, but I'd watch the Clemson Tigers

football team even if they were playing the game in roller skates and getting paid $5k per game.

There's something in those hills and I love spending my time in THE VALLEY!

You do what you do, but I hope to see you in THE VALLEY!

Are they deducting taxes and insurance? If not I think they will need to make quarterly payments to IRS. Wonder what expenses they can claim? Standard deductions won't go far. Hope they are pitching in to pay my social security!

I’m pretty sure it’s barely under $6k per year for every athlete @ CU.

That has to be it.

According to Tigernet News, that is per year, not monthly and for grade performance.
