"Clemson stole signals, But they beat us fair and square!"

Now Cunningham from Louise-ville can't handle losing to The Tigers! Get used to it Malik! Bad mouthing Clemson in public won't make it any easier in The Valley this season!

LOL at stealing signals.

So, if a defense knows personnel groupings and formations and down and distance tendencies, I wonder if people think it's somehow unethical or unsporty?

That's knowing your opponent, no?

there is a reason signals aren't easy to read

Jul 21, 2022, 4:28 PM

if you are stealing signals you still don't have to steal, react, and communicate to get any kind of advantage.

There is a sure fire fix for that...

Hire smarter coaches who can develop a more sophisticated signaling system.

You call it stealing signals.

I call it preparation, film study, and knowing your opponent.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Well if Clemson stole signals the coaches must have esp. The first down play came after a timeout, did they use signals during the timeout? The third down play came after a Clemson timeout, see previous sentence. On the fourth down play he slipped and went down. That was on him.

He's exactly right. Just like beisaball, it ain't cheatin'

unless you get caught. And just like Nascar, the Jawja motto, "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'!"

Stealing signals isn't even illegal***

That's what I have been thinking every time I see comments about it. Unless it meets the criteria of unsportsmanlike, I don't know.
Seems to me when Nebraska basically ran the I formation option either right or left, but they had that FB/TE/HB type shuffles down the back of the line of scrimmage - "they told you what they were going to do"! Teams still couldn't stop it. In other words, if you execute it right, because you the offense know where you are going and the defense has to react - you still have a tactical advantage.

In short, stop whining about Clemson stealing signals and worry about executing the play! Teams certainly seem to have picked the Clemson offense apart. Rightfully so; as it has been highly successful against top-tier defenses and average ones alike. Mirrored and analyzed to the point - I felt people started having answers for it. Add in a bunch of injuries and we didn't look great! But, we aren't whining like some of these coaches and players talking about stealing signals about it.

I bet it's just that they just have a very simple signal system so their players don't have to have a 3 digit IQ to be on the field.

Even if Clemson did get the signals, that is actually a lot more common than people think.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

calling it stealing is sour grapes but I will miss

Venables and his knack for being over prepared. He knew his stuff and he studied teams to a T. Most d coordinators don’t do it like venables did it. Hope his shoes are adequately filled
