Hearing from some "fairly reliable" source (parent of well known player) about what you mentioned regarding Shaw's mom not so warm with Dabo But really two different things I am hearing, one is that it is from personal interaction but mostly that the issue is UNC coaches (as they did with some DB recruits that back-fired on them) just really doing some serious negative recruiting. I mean obviously negative recruiting occurs everywhere but hearing they basically hammering away about Dabo and the stuff the media they attacked him on last summer. (slow to react to race stuff, not about college bring professionalized, on and on). Just hard to believe after meeting Dabo that stuff carries weight but lots of different view points our there for sure.
Maybe you can't say but can you add anymore insight on this?

You must be new to recruiting so here are some baseline facts so you are up to speed:
1) No school gets every recruit they want
2) Pulling a recruit from another state when they have a good instate option is always a difficult proposition
3) Negative recruiting has always happened
4) The higher up on the mountain you are, the harder other schools come after you.
5) If other schools are not attaching you on the recruiting trail, it means you have nothing they want
6) Guys like Dabo and Saban are under constant attack but seem to have a way of dealing with it and prospering at the same time

Good morning 261tiger, yes I do think that Shaw's mother favored UNC throughout the process; however, based on what I am hearing that will not be the sole reason Shaw chooses UNC. I legitimately think that he was torn between the two schools.
Out of respect for 1. Shaw and his family, they still have an announcement to make, and 2. so that I do not say too much as far as sources go, I can not completely get into why I have heard UNC will be the pick, it is way more than just the mom, and no they did not just throw a bag at Shaw like Bama did with Alexander. It should become clear why he chose UNC soon after he commits, and I expect Shaw to be the one to make the announcement. Sorry I can not get into more details than that, so y'all please do not ask.
-As far as negative recruiting yeah it happens, and the race stuff has certainly been brought up, OSU mentions it a lot. UGA negative recruits maybe more than anyone, IMO it just fits their culture, I know they attacked Clemson with Jalon Walker because Venables' kid plays LB and gets playing time. I am not going to say that Clemson has never said anything bad about another team, but I generally think Clemson tries to make the pitch about themselves and get kids who actually want to play here.

Well I'm going to take you for your word and understand you're just trying to be helpful. Imo, it's all of the above. Kinda like Bama getting the instate kid last minute. I'm sure a ton of ppl said the same thing about spiller. Wish him well and hope option 2 or 3 turns out better.... Like with Cade.

Well the entire country has been convinced vaccines are necessary for the sniffles with a 0.27% death rate so I guess people can be convinced or anything.

Everybody thinks the other team engages in negative recruiting. After UNC lost Everette to the Tigers, our fanbase whined about Clemson going hard negative towards Dre for his lack of placing players in the NFL (he's only been coaching two season?) and his lack of coaching experience.
I'm sure some of this goes on around the edges but I have a hard time believing Mack & staff would go after Dabo personally on the "race" issues, etc. By all accounts the two head coaches are friendly and Mack constantly puts the Clemson program on a pedestal when mentioning where he wants UNC to be as a program.
Having said all of that, everyone agrees that the Dawgs are negative recruiters.
BTW, you guys absolutely must destroy UGA in Charlotte.
