Clemson needs to join the SEC or Big Ten

Jun 30, 2022, 2:28 PM

The ACC will not be part of a big 3... it will be those 2 conferences and the rest will be irrelevant. F the ACC, Clemson needs to do what's best for Clemson... and thats clearly join one of these two titans.

There has to be an offer, but those are the only routes that will keep Clemson relevant.

I don’t see a need for it yet. Clemson has a perfect path to the playoff every year. Dabo makes sure to schedule a strong OOC opponent every year and we beat the coots who are guilty by association in SEC. There will always be at least one or two ranked ACC teams on our schedule and with Miami and the NIL deals, they will become more relevant sooner than later. Win our schedule and win ACCCG and we’re a lock every year. And if we don’t win our conference then we don’t belong in the playoffs anyways IMO

Just think how different things would have been if we beat UGA in the opener last year. Remember that game was only decided by a pick six.

Per Dennis Dodd, The new SEC and BIG 10 will be giving out $80 Million per conference member. But, hey let's do nothing. Withering on the vine is a plan.

ClemTig what options does Clemson have?

Jun 30, 2022, 3:13 PM

Last I checked, the Big Ten hasn't invited Clemson. And the SEC will never invite Clemson. They all hate Clemson. And without an invite, Clemson has no options. Should have left the garbage ACC years ago but noooo.

It is true that playing an ACC football schedule gives us an easy path to the playoffs right now. But at some point, the ACC could become such a 2nd tier conference that the ACC champ may not get a guaranteed seat at the playoff table.

In the meantime, we are the only one carrying the ACC banner while the rest of the pathetic members ride on our coattails and feed at the trough that we are filling up. And even bottom feeder SEC schools like USC and Vandy will have such an advantage over us in money and resources that they may eventually become formidable opponents.

Bottom line is that IF there is an opportunity to move to the SEC, we need to go.

If the projections posted by The Athletic are correct, we might need to consider moving sooner rather than later. And if I'm the B1G/SEC, it's probably time to look into having more control over camps and recruiting services.

They're playing chess. Eventually, we gotta stop playing checkers.

To become a member of the SEC you must be invited, you cannot just ask and join.
To issue an invitation 75% of current members must approve.
In Clemson's case neither UGA, USC, Alabama, Auburn or Florida would vote to invite, thus falling below the required threshold for invitation. There are long standing political, geographical and financial underpinnings to justify those positions, differing among those 5 current SEC members.
A far more likely route for inevitable SEC expansion to 20 rests in inviting some four out of the combo of the of 5 North Carolina and Virginia ACC members. The huge revenue differential facing all ACC members will drive their willingness to change affiliations.
Miami and FSU face the same roadblocks as does Clemson.
Media market size ( Greenville is #36), size of student body thus their alumni base, are other arguments that will arise.
Plan B seems necessary.

Unless the BIG 10 threatens a move into the Southeast, which could threaten recruiting territory of the SEC. Then the SEC may change that opinion.

all kinds of sense for conference memberships. Anything above that becomes too unwieldy to manage. A Pox on John Swofford and his descendants.

Please explain why the number "16" makes any more sense than another number. Thanks.
