Clemson Nation lost a good one.

Dec 29, 2016, 9:23 PM

My father passed away Christmas morning and his funeral was today. His love of The orange was even brought up by our pastor during the service. The last couple years his health has been in decline and he said he wanted his headstone to read, "Still better than being a Gamecock". He was a character and as we spent Christmas Eve with him in the hospital he was in good spirits and had everyone laughing. Richard Evatt you will be missed and Clemson family maybe one short on earth but Heaven gained a good one.

My aunt actually emailed me your dad's obituary a couple days ago. My daddy would have been the same age as yours, but I lost him in '08. The obituary really touched my aunt & we both agreed that he left here the right way. It seems as if you & your family would have some great, fun memories with him. Always remember those times and he'll always live inside you. God be with you and your family in your time of loss.

Prayers coming to you and your family. I lost my father on Christmas day, 25 years ago. He, too,was an avid Clemson fan, graduating in 1939. I got a note from a friend when he died who said that Daddy must have been a truly special person for God to call him home on His son's birthday! I can't tell you how much that helped. It really made the pain of losing him so much more bearable. I hope you, too, can feel some comfort from this.

Terribly sorry for your loss....I can't even imagine. Life is so short and this year has proven that no one will last forever. I dread the day when my parents will leave me. However, those memories we have of them are immortal. Cherish those, reflect on the time you spent together. Make it a point to spend as much time with those you love. It will be one less regret you'll have in this lifetime.
