To be fair

Michigan and Arkansas State did surpass us in TFL/game this year. We had 2 extra games than them. Same thing in 2015 where 4 teams had more TFL/game than we did. We led in both total TFL and TFL/game in 2012 and 2013.

To be more fair

Michigan, Arkansas State and whoever else probably had a much easier schedule with much less talented opposing OLs and QBs to go against.

Clemson has to pace itself to get through those extra games! ;)

Fine, but irrelevant

because the NCAA recognizes the leader in TFL based on TFL/game and we were 3rd this year.

I'll take playing in the playoffs/national championship

over TFL but like people have said the competition has not been comparative.

Is that when Venables started? Prior to the last four years, we were terrible.

Venables came in 2012, and prior to his arrival we were #65 in the nation with 277 yards in 14 games (roughly 300 yards less than the last three seasons, and 1 of those seasons only playing 13 games.). The Venebals era saw us improve from #65 to #28 in his first year, and then #1 every year since. What an improvement in coaching and I would also say the recruiting talent has increased as well over that same period.

Top 20 in sacks every season too

Since venables arrived and # 2 and #3 last two seasons. Don't look for any drop off next year. Absolutely love our D!
