Clemson grad Son WILL did Grand Canyon “Rim to Rim & Back Run” recently..

Nov 5, 2020, 9:44 AM

which took 16.5 hours for him with no sleep and quick rest stops every 30 minutes while crossing the river at its shallow point halfway into the run..and then after going up the other side he repeated the process to get back to the starting point to drive car back to the airport 4 hours away..worn out.

He flew from CLT to Phoenix by himself and drove rental car 4 hours to reach site to meet a group of friends participating.

Since then he’s been mildly sick with Covid & quarantined..but he finally sent me pic of ridge & path with two runners shown on it (he was 2 miles ahead of them). Notice the snow on boulders!

He’s been a short & long distance runner for 25 of his 50 years and has done the Seal Team stuff carrying logs on his shoulders coming out of the ocean waves, and the Iron Man stuff jumping over high barriers into muddy ditches, and has run many 50 to 100 mile events in many states too..training in mountains around Boone NC, Kings Mtn NC & other areas.

For me, I jog 50 feet each morn to get my WSJ paper that’s halfway down the drive!

LOL & Go TiGERS!

Really stunning. Glad your son has mild symptoms. Guessing he will be well in no time.

I'm planning a grand canyon trip in 2022

after looking at that picture, I'm about 10 years too late. That trail looks rough even walking.

Congratulations Will on your accomplishment! You made your Dad and me very proud of your stamina and willpower. I have known you from your childhood and you are a very good person. I know your Mother, Becky, is very proud of you also. Keep up the good work and running in these events.

That is an absolutely amazing feat. No matter how hard you think it is, you are wrong. It is harder.

Praying for his quick recovery from COVID.

We got to the Grand Canyon on a Western tour with 3 hours to view from the rim before sunset. 15 minutes after arriving, this is what happened, completely obstructing the view...

Happy to hear Will has only mild symptoms, sending prayers he will be back to normal soon. Quite an accomplishment, you have every right to be proud.
