Clemson football is bigger than the ACC…

Jul 22, 2021, 11:12 PM

We couldn’t say that ten years ago - we can now…

Clemson needs to think Clemson first as the conf re-alignment shakes out….

If the ACC doesn’t make smart/necessary moves , Clemson should consider all options..

If the ACC doesn’t add some version of WVU and ND I don’t really want anything to do with it.

What options does Clemson have?

Jul 22, 2021, 11:37 PM

The SEC clearly doesn't want us. If the ACC doesn't get ND as a full member, the conference could lose it's Power 5 status. Of course Big 12 probably will lose that. So, the Power 3?

You are right in that the only options we have is pushing

Jul 23, 2021, 1:32 AM

From the moment teh playoff expands to 12 and six conference champions are guaranteed spots, the phrase power 5, or power 4, or power whatever becomes obsolete.

ACC leadership to make strong moves. We are not going to the SEC because, as you say, they don't want us. I don't think we really want to be in that logjam either unless it was the only way to stay in the game. o we are not going to the SEC (glad of that) and we are not going to get invited to the Big Ten or Pac 12 (LOL), so the ACC is our home. It has been a good home (3 national titles and 20 ACC titles).

Worst case scenario, the ACC stays gets poached by the Bit Ten (unlikely due to the GOR)

Mid case scenario, the ACC stays as is and we keep meeting the best of the SEC in the semifinals of the playoff.

Best case scenario, the ACC convinces Notre Dame to join full time and we get a greatly increased contract split the money only 15 ways.

If Notre Dame hesitates, then take West Virginia as #15 and keep Notre Dame as partial member.

Beat me with words, and I'm OK with that but, saying that we have 20 ACC FB championships isn't saying much with how under powered the ACC is in FB. Bragging about winning the ACC in FB, is like saying that I out run the man with one leg by 20 yards in a 25 yard race!!!;)

there is truth there but saying you have 2 natiional champs

in the last 6 years is pretty stinking worth it. You can't win it unless you're in it.

I like most of your comments, but stand pat on one issue; Either Notre Dame joins as a full football member or the New Commissioner gives them the boot.
My opinion is they may be "Holier than Thou" but they can't have it both ways.

We aren't losing our power 5 status....that's message board

Jul 23, 2021, 8:58 AM [ in reply to What options does Clemson have? ]

banter. If that is ever a real possibility then we'll revisit but that won't happen any time soon. The ACC is just going through a down phase and will be back up. Their biggest problem is coaching. There was a time within the last 10 years that we had the best coaching names in all of college football but that dwindled in the past 8 years and we're stuck with a lot of midmajor coaches trying to figure it out. Whatever...we only do Clemson stuff so I could care less. Go Tigers, Keep dominating...and ignore the haters.

Truth. Clemson should do whatever is best for its football program without any consideration for the ACC.

That all said, staying in the ACC is the likely option.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Or stay put and dominate. I think we are right where we need

Jul 23, 2021, 8:52 AM

to be. Don't give in to the jealous hacks that are trapped in a conference that they'll never compete in. Just keep winning and keep recruiting.
