Clemson Family lost a great one

Mr. Edsel Hemingway 91 of Andrews, SC passed away at home this passed Thursday. Everyone please fly your Clemson flags this week in memory of this sweet man.

His dove pirleau event held every last Friday in April was legendary. Over 2500 doves cooked with rice and salt pork in 5 giant cast iron pots tended to by mostly Kingstree cooks.
Usually attended by about 5-600 men only from all walks of life with all the beer and liquor you could safely consume.

I knew Edsel Hemingway a long time ago when I was growing up. He was a true gentleman and a great Tiger supporter.

He loved to hunt and probably killed a lot of those doves himself.

And one from Trio I believe.
After the supper of pirleau, white limas and slaw things moved into a large outbuilding where the dice came out and craps were on! Both Williamsburg and Georgetown counties sheriffs and their deputies were in attendance and nobody got into trouble. What a special family and event. Was sorry to see it end about 15 years ago.
