Clemson Facilities

I haven’t seen this discussed but expect it has. We hear from most top level football recruits that Clemson has the top facilities in the country — complete with slide, tutors, sleeping facilities, bowling, etc. etc. etc. Does Clemson not allow the basketball players to step foot in these facilities? And if they are not barred, doesn’t Clemson have top facilities for hoopsters as well. Thanks for insights ...

With the exception of some of the bells and whistles (slide, bowling, etc) that you mentioned, what makes Clemson's facilities the best in the country are the parts that are devoted to player development.
Basketball guys are not going to train with football guys.
There is no reason for basketball players to use the indoor turf (baseball uses it in bad weather sometimes).
The basketball facilities are not close enough to the football facilities to stroll over and take a nap in the nap room (the players likely live almost as close).
Short answer to your question: no basketball does not share any of the football facilities.
Each sport has it's own facility for development and leisure time. Baseball and basketball have made upgrades almost as recently as football.
The difference in how much budget Clemson is willing to spend on the basketball facilities vs football.

Basketball has their own facilities They are nice but not great. The ladies facilities are the same as the men’s with a few more bells and whistles. Both are nice but not as nice as other schools. Our mens budget for basketball is one third of Dukes When the BOT decides we should be great at basketball then we will. No coach can beat shoe money, bag men and lower quality facilities no manner how great the school is. Hopefully the feds attempt to punish those involved in the shoe money will help level the field.

SocMan, your Post brings up a great point. Until we made major financial investments into football we were an above average program. No we are considered elite. The basketball facilities are separate from the football facilities and I am not sure how much the football team shares. The men’s and women’s basketball facilities are above average but other schools have much better facilities. I have said for years LJ (designed by a football coach aka Frank Howard) should be torned down a rebuilt. The exterior should stand out a night much like DV. That would impress recruits. It may even get them to visit Clemson. It may even increase attendance.
Start thinking like a recruit. Ask yourself Do I want to play basketball for Clemson where the facilities are like the team average to above average and fan attendance is really good but not great. Consider that the BB team has a really great year thrown in every so often. Or you ask yourself do I want to play for a school that has nicer facilities and wins a little or a lot more than Clemson. To me as a recruit that is an easy decision. This is why it’s so difficult to recruit head to head with schools in our own conference as well as schools like Kentucky, Memphis, Tennessee and Florida that are in our main area of recruiting. Also, as a recruit you have to ask yourself, do I want to play for a HC whose fans are constantly demanding he be FIRED??? Will he be my HC when I enroll in school or will he survive my time at Clemson???
Now if we invested more $$$ into facilities on par with the football facilities and I can see Clemson has stepped up its commitment to developing a winning basketball program as a recruit HC Brad B and Clemson now have my attention. Coach B can now say we are investing money into Clemson BB. Our administration and fans are behind us so now we feel like we can duplicate successes much like our football program has the last 10 plus years. We are committed to winning but we are going to do it the right way. No short cuts. If you come to Clemson we will give your an excellent educatinon, feed you well, give you top facilities and the best fans in college sports. Also you come to Clemson and become part of something special. The NEW culture of competitive winning basketball at Clemson University.
IMO we can fire Brad B. but unless many other changes are made why put losing all on the shoulders of Coach B. IMHO, we must invest more money, more time, more support from the administration and more support from the fans. Sure a new HC might mean a few more W’s , more energy into the program at least for a few years, but it’s not going to change the state of Clemson Basketball as it is and has been for so many years. The only way fans can invision hope for the future success of Clemson Men’s Basketball program is to see new goals for the basketball programs. It will include spending more money and the Administration’s total commitment to Excellence and success. I mentioned money several times because I believe it is one of the most important pieces for success.
And I believe it begins with the best facilities possible.
