Clemson basketball trajectory last 6 years

I keep seeing it said by the Brown-L cultists that the program has been on an upward trajectory the last 6 years. How is it we haven't won a NCAA tournament game in 5 years? What kind of upward trajectory is that?

Since the last win in the tournament of the 2017-18 season we went the following:

2018-19 -- NIT (downward)
2019-20 -- 16-15...one game above .500 (downward)
2020-21 -- Lost as a favorite in the first round of the NCAA's. Slight improvement
2021-22 -- 17-16...one game above .500 yet again (downward)
2022-23 -- all the quad 4 losses including on our home court in the first rd. of the NIT. Yes it was an improvement from the year before but this veteran team failed to make the NCAA's yet again. Call it an improvement if you want but the cycle points to a 16-18 win season next year.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Interesting that you pointed to four losses instead of 23 wins and a postseason bid for 2023. I guess you were taught to cherry pick your data points at Clemson to prove your point?

The quad 4 losses defined this season.***

I swear you have the worst logic of any poster on TigerNet ever. I didn't cherry pick anything and if you think losing on your home to a quad 4, in a useless Not Important Tournament, is postseason success then have at it.

“Post season bid” instead of “NIT (Not in Tournament) first round loss as a #1 seed”.

Getting fattened up on cupcakes (but still losing to some of them) is no way to rate a season. Sure we won more games than usual, but our SOS both in the ACC and in the OOC schedule were simply BAD BAD BAD. And then we lost 4 games to NET 225 or worse teams?

If I played 30 games of 21 with a 4-year-old girl and lost 4 of them, I would not want to be going around claiming, "Yeah, but I won 26 games!"

I would think that any truly objective person would know we played a cupcake schedule, both in and OOC. So, the 23 wins should be graded with a curve, don’t you agree?

I think a graph would be helpful to see if these trends are indeed accurate.

I have no idea what that will accomplish…

Everything we’ve been told about Brownell is false. The last 4 years he is below his career trend line. Data taken from Sports-reference.com using their simple rating system.

That's weird. According to those measures, in 13 years Brad

has only had one single season where he outperformed the team he inherited from Oliver Purnell. One single season out of 13.

Something else I noticed when I was looking at SRS a couple weeks ago, Brownell has coached 27% (13/48) of the seasons starting from Foster, but only has 1 of the top 11 seasons by SRS in that time period.

Well, it's spring. Soon the pools will open and well, you know. Also, it will be easier on all of us if we just realize that none of us will ever live long enough to see our Tigers make the Final Four in basketball. Plus, Brad is going to be with us next year and there's not one thing that we can do about it. Let's just move on to spring football.

But 23 wins! 23 wins! Can we look at the games?

Mar 27, 2023, 7:35 PM

It's really like we played two different seasons.

We went 7-6 against the varsity (Quad 1 and 2 teams)
and 16-5 against the JV (3 & 4 teams).

All 21 of those Quad 3/4 games should have been wins if we are anywhere near as good as Mighty Coach Brad coaches our team to be. 28-6 is a pretty good tournament resume. We probably get a 7 or 8 seed with that record.

If you take away the wins over NCSU, which we just seemed to have their number, we won only four quality games out of ten.
