Clemson Basketball Expectations for next year?
Mar 17, 2022, 11:15 AM

I've seen quite a few people respond to AD Neff's letter thanking him for setting expectations for next year, but did he really?
"In the days following the ACC Tournament, Coach Brownell and I met several times to discuss the state of the program, potential off-season changes and plans for next year that would return us to the NCAA Tournament."
It's very cleverly worded and I see no expectation being set of NCAAT or bust for next year. It's very open ended and dependent on interpretation. Just my .02.
With that said, what are honest expectations for next season?
We lose Collins, Bohannon, and potentially Tyson.
We bring back some good in PJ, Honor, Dawes, and Hunter and could see a step forward for Schieffelin and Middlebrooks.
Honestly not sure what expectations we should have for incoming recruiting class who are all 3*s, but hopefully we hit.
Looks like we've got a pretty decent core to work with and with a few instant impact transfers, we could set up nicely.
I think expectations should be to finish in the top half of the ACC and make the postseason. I also think NCAAT vs NIT will be more dependent on the strength of the ACC next year than we'd like.

My expectation

is that Brownell will single handedly lose 2-3 games by himself, with pathetic coaching down the stretch of a close game. After this happens for the 13th straight year, a change better be made!

Supposedly that same expectation has happened a few times in his 12 years. What a waste of an opportunity. I don’t care if he wins 20 games next year. After 12 years, Brownell has demonstrated what he is and is not. The program is worse than when he took it over. So, one good year after 12, is not going to take Clemson where we want to go. Give someone new a chance.

I know this his first year on the job, but it's time to step up to the plate.

If he really was new - maybe I would give him a pass. Graham has been at Clemson for years. So, it was time for him to make a statement, he failed.

I expect the season will go in one of three ways
1. 5% We do something special like win the ACC or make the sweet 16 again and start getting people back on board.
2. 40% We miss the Tournament and get a new coach.
3. 55% We sneak in the tournament and get bounced in the first round. We are still stuck in the same situation we have been for 12 years. The following year we will miss the tournament and be having the same discussion.

All Clemson fans should have the following expectations for the men’s basketball team. Win 22-24 games and finish in the top 4 in the ACC. (A experienced team with a true star in PJ Hall) They should be an NCAAT team (not last four in) and win at least 2 in the tournament. The 2024 basketball season to be a deep run into the NCAAT. They should win the ACC Tournament at least once in the next four years They should win the regular season at least once in the next 5 years. The expectations cannot be based on one year of being successful but signs the program is growing yearly.

the 16 points per game and experience of Collins and Bohannon.
Assuming we get at least one scorer in the portal, a couple of wins in the NIT is my expectation for next year. If we don't get a scorer or two in the portal, we won't make the NIT.

The University's expectation is to win about 55% of the regular season games and about one-third of ACC games and maybe make the NIT.
I have the same expectations but hope the season ends with Brownell getting canned.

because that's the way Brad rolls when in a hot seat year. This year it was a season-ending winning streak to get us over .500 and show 'promise', again, of what could lie ahead. If you recall, our team had some injuries to players at some points, and our AD is new, so leeway and such. I mistakenly thought it would take more in the ACCT, but alas. The bar seems a bit lower now, so perhaps just an NIT would do the trick in 22-23. I guess it depends on the circumstances.
Go Tigers.

Get everyone’s hopes up, go on a six or seven game losing streak to erase any hopes of the postseason, and then win three or four games at the end of the season as Brad attempts to save his job. Brad then blames the players and Clemson for the inability to attract good athletes for basketball

Definitely Not a strong enough letter which is reflective of the fact that Neff was apparently not strong enough with his expectations of this 12 year coach who has not been able to get his team into the NCAA's nor NIT often enough!
