Pawlowski may have said No but we will never know. Wonder how he got him from FSU ? More money or do they have a friendship over the years.

The HC was fired so there is no guarantee that the new HC would retain him.

Pawlowski hasn't been relevant since he left CofC in 2008 and he definitely was not relevant to this coaching position search in 2022. You think players and recruits would be fired up to play for the guy who was fired from Auburn and Western Kentucky? The world has moved on...

Western Kentucky gave him a contract extension in January through the 2025 season. It looks like he left for personal reasons.

this is classic Tnet. The OP stated people aren't gonna like this hire but seems almost everyone likes the hire. Then next year if pitching is improved some old man who sits at his computer with his shirt tucked in and white new balance shoes on his feet will call out the haters (who did not exist) for not liking the hire.

Good point and actually in retrospect
Jun 21, 2022, 2:19 PM
[ in reply to Re: Clemson baseball, people aren’t gonna like this ] |

I could’ve worded the OP better.
I used the phrase “aren’t going to like” when actually my thinking was more along the lines of people will be “disappointed “, which I think is much more accurate.
I like the hire, I think it’s a great hire, but I am a little disappointed. I was at Clemson in the 80s and Pawlowski would’ve helped bring more of that Clemson tradition back and a little more of the connection to the Bill Wilhelm era.
I think everyone that loves Clemson baseball will see this as a great hire because his résumé is impressive. But I think, especially for some of us older guys, Pawlowski coming home was based more on nostalgia and a little bit selfish from a sentimental perspective.

Actually, I thought it was a pretty good hire, and definitely an improvement over See (MHO). And in answer to another post, I'm sure Belanger was available, since FSU head coach had just been fired. Furthermore, based on what I read, it seemed like Pawlowski left his previous job for personal reasons, & may not have been ready for a return to coaching (but I may have read/interpreted that wrong).
Most of what I've read about Bakich has impressed me that he is a good fit for Clemson. But then, I originally thought that Monte was going to be good hire. However, Monte never impressed me with his leadership, even in the early years when he was at least making the regionals--but, we lost all those, even when we were hosting! Seems like people should be giving Bakich the benefit of the doubt, but some TNet posters seem to want to criticize anything just to post something.

And if this is his choice for pitching coach it also looks like a great hire. His résumé is impressive.
Right after we fired Monte, FSU fired Mike Martin Jr.. It looked like a strategic move to outflank Clemson in the Link Jarrett sweepstakes. It was a shrewd move because there’s no way Jarrett would pick Clemson over Florida State even if we offered more money.
Based on things I have read, however, Graham Neff went to Jack and asked his opinion on replacing Monte and Jack said go get Bakich. If that is true, and there’s no reason to think it’s not since what I read looked like a quote from Neff, then Bakich was Neff’s target from the beginning, not Link Jarrett, which was the conventional narrative.

I did notice an article from earlier in the year where he signed a contract extension through the 2025 season. It is interesting that he would sign a contract extension then resign a few months later.

How old are you? Did you graduate from Clemson? If so when?
If you were at Clemson and loved baseball during the Bill Wilhelm years then you would understand why some older guys would like to see Pawlowski back in Clemson.

No one is not calm.
I was asking him how old he was because age has everything to do with nostalgia and perspective, which is why me and others were hoping Pawlowski would get the job.
You, however, falsely assumed that the question was asked out of anger or disgust and in an accusatory way implying that they are young and stupid.

and probably watched more Clemson baseball from the scrubby hill in front of Fike than any student in the entire school while I was there. I have followed and supported the baseball team ever since. After quietly suffering and watching the debacle that was Clemson baseball the last 5 or so years (embarrassing lack of fundamentals, clueless head coach, etc.), I’ve long since left behind any sentimental thoughts about alma maters, etc. in our coaching searches ( maybe except for USC). I want the best coaches and quality people to represent us with proven results, regardless of emotion or alma mater.
I think this Bakich hire is a grand slam and I fully trust who he selects as a pitching coach until proven otherwise.

You titled your post "People aren't going to like this"...Says who? The 3 people on T-Net that said they wanted Pawloski to get the job? No one who knows anything ever acknowledged Pawlowski as a real candidate for this job. This message board isn't the real world.
I'm fired up for Bakich, Schnabel, and Belanger to turn this program around!

They can have an opinion, but it’s no different that taking investing advice from a Tnetter vs a 30 trader at a top investment firm. Leave the decision making to the people with the track record and salary to back their titles.

Jun 21, 2022, 4:04 PM

That might be someone to keep an eye on in the future because they could be someone on the inside that stops by and drops subtle hints. Because it’s not like most college baseball fans know who the pitching coach is at Florida State. That would have to be an extremely hard-core college baseball fan. That seems like too much of a coincidence to not be someone that didn’t have a little bit of inside information.

Jun 21, 2022, 4:17 PM

You clearly did not interpret my intentions correctly.
And clearly didn’t read the thread and my other comments where I said I think it’s a great hire and I don’t have a problem with it and that I don’t really think people are going to be angry but some people might be disappointed because of nostalgia and sentimentality.
I don’t regret the post at all. And my opinion and my thoughts have not changed. I simply could’ve worded it a little differently. But nothing has changed as far as my thoughts and feelings are concerned and I’m the one that made the OP.
This thread is actually closer to a real conversation. This is how conversations evolve in real life. Online forums rarely mirror real life conversations.
Human emotions are complex. You can like something and be disappointing at the same time. I can like the hire but be a little disappointed that it wasn’t Pawlowski at the same time.

I said some people aren’t gonna like this. And that is true. There are people that aren’t gonna like this hire.
Personally I hoped that Paw would get the job but I think Belanger is a great hire. Therefore, I’m mildly disappointed but I don’t dislike it.
The fact that most people commenting like the hire does not mean that there aren’t plenty of people that do not because there will be people that will not like that Pawlowski was not hired.
So no I have not missed the mark.
And people comment every day especially on this forum making assumptions and false interpretations. In fact most of the people I see commenting look like idiots because it’s clear they didn’t read the actual OP or if they did they have the reading comprehension skills of a child.
So you missed the mark twice.

When Pawlowski doesn’t get the job. Because they have been on here for a week talking about want him to come back to Clemson.
Once again you’re showing your complete lack of reading comprehension. I clearly never stated everyone would not like the hire but certainly some people will not like it and will not be shy about it.

Yes. It looks like Belanger was on Bakich’s staff at Maryland
Jun 22, 2022, 3:35 AM

I saw an article written when he got hired at Florida state and it didn’t go into a lot of detail with dates and times, but he was at Maryland a while back. He was at Maryland, somewhere else, then Florida State. So it looks like he was probably at Maryland with Bakich.
Based on what he did at Florida State comparing the numbers before he got there with the numbers during his tenure it was a vast improvement.
