Clemson Baseball Fact

Apr 16, 2021, 9:16 PM

The last time Clemson baseball ended their season with a losing record was 1957 when they went 6-12. Coach Wilhelm took over in 1958. We play 50 regular season games this year.

At least 10 more wins but then we'd have to have a winning record in the ACC tournament.

We need to rally this team to keep that record intact. Go Tigers!!!!

This is the worst baseball probably ever fielded at Clemson and there is zero signs Monte has any ability to fix it. It’s kinda sad if your a Clemson baseball guy to see it get to this.

And I’m not even speaking of talent. It’s just a bad , undisciplined, lack of fundamentals program.

Again, his record versus Top 25 is 44%. He’s 14-19 versus the SEC. if we weren’t in a bad baseball conference, it would be even worse. Not sure how with those credentials, along with what we’re seeing this year, he can be brought back

I agree with some of this but is it his fault a guy is starting on a Friday night that wouldn’t normally be a midweek guy because of injury? Let’s just not be in the moment complainers. Tonight just ain’t our night. Aside from the other stuff I agree with, that isn’t the case tonight!

That’s not his fault but the approach to the game is his fault. He openly admits to teaching his guys to hit pop ups with the hope one goes out, swings the bat runners on 1st and 2nd no outs in extras, says he would do it over again after hitting into a dp, examples galore of lack of fundamentals. We aren’t Vanderbilt where you rely on a reach around to get the best talent. We need a coach who can play small ball when the game dictates and knows when to swing away when the game dictates. Monte doesn’t have that sense and we will never get any better with him at Clemson. Time to move on.

I agree with that. I’m talking about tonight. I know the “ tonight’s” are mounting up. It’s not the small ball vs big ball thing; it’s the situational. F the analytics and do what has always worked. See ball, hit ball. Hit behind him. See the bunt down. Make sure it’s in the dirt before you go. From second; see the ball behind you. Two strikes; choke and poke. Two strikes; anything close. But this was also Jack’s issue too! My 2 sense!

Shuey, I agree, not an in the moment guy. True, It's not our night. Might say that if it were just this year. But it's going on year 6. Every year at seasons end, we address the same thing. We're young, we need speed, we need hitters, we need closers, we need pitchers. In monte's tenure, when has he had a pitcher that goes deep into the game. Yeah, Sharpe shocked some teams freshman year, but even he couldn't go deep most games.

We've feasted off weak competition to make a regional. As soon as a good team shows up, we can't hang. Mostly it hasn't even been close. So no, not a in the moment frustrated. It's broke.

Most spot on assessment I’ve seen here. We seemingly need something different every year and don’t develop what we have. This long into the tenure and we don’t have answers for fundamentals it’s time.

Absolutely right on situation game management Sheuy! Seems Monte doesn’t understand the difference in Bottom 4 and Bottom 11 and need to have difference approaches at the plate. For those that played the game it’s frustrating to watch right now.

My post has zero to do with tonight. Their a Top 25 team so it was pretty evident what would happen tonight.

I’m really I guess most disappointed that there is not the same sense of urgency to fix this problem by our administration. You watch the Ole Miss vs Mississippi State series, or the LSU vs coot series. The level of play, stadiums, fan enthusiasm for the programs are night and day from where we are. I remember when a Saturday night at Tiger field was as good as it could get. It’s been 7 or 8 years of just average to below average baseball and I’m not even sure if anyone cares anymore. And to me, that hurts because we used to rival all those schools.

Fact is, every year Monte is allowed to have his hands on this program, is just adding to the time it’s going to take to fix it.

As to the injury excuse, tell me one guy who has come back and made a difference. Why has Kier, Hackenburg, Henderson, Sam Hall and many others not only not progressed but regressed since their freshman years.

Again, I wish there was evidence of a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m just afraid if there was one, Monte would fail to know what to do with it.

Well outlaw. I kinda posted that because it was then I first started learning what baseball was... And more importantly Clemson baseball. Been a fan ever since.

After watching that 7th inning, I tend to agree with you on your points. Is blue giving some home cooking, possible. But after 6 innings you have to learn the strike zone. Down 9-1 with a 1-2 count, you cannot afford to watch a ball go by that's remotely close. 2 K's looking don't cut it.

Ps. I’m watching the replay now to affirm what I’m pretty sure we agree on. However, tonight isn’t a good litmus test due to the pitching situation as I stated earlier.
