I have a quick question, and I would appreciate some feedback.
Someone told me the reason Clemson baseball can't get over the hump... is because we don't offer full scholarships in the quantities that other programs do.
Is this true. If not, what has been our issue. When I was there 76-81, Wilhelm did pretty well, but since then is doesn't seem to be the same. Even though Jack and Monte were both .683, inline with Wilhelm's
Clemson offers the same 11.7 scholarships as everyone else in D1; what they were probably talking about is endowment funding. Schools with massive endowments, like Vanderbilt, offer endowed athletics scholarships that they use to effectively provide more than the regular 11.7 scholarships. For comparison Vanderbilt has a $10B academic endowment, Clemson’s has $1B; and that 10X greater Vandy endowment is split across roughly half as many students as Clemson. So, Schools like Vandy have found loop holes in the rules to use their vast wealth to give the baseball team an advantage in the form additional tuition paid roster spots.
Thanks so much Geech72. Hmmm, that's kinda disappointing.
I firmly believe that $$$$$ will soon destroy all collegiate sports, especially football. What moron at the NCAA thought it was a good idea to cave to the fools that thought was necessary.
Ol' Richard Sherman (Seahawks) said when they did it that they just destroyed college football. And he is a very smart fella.
Oh well, I'll have to go to Wofford games, where nobody will end up at a car dealer.
