Clemson Baseball

Clemson baseball is officially dead. I don’t know if it’s the limited scholarships, recruiting difficulties, or what, but this program is an unrecognizable shell of what it used to be. Players aren’t exciting, our brand of baseball is terribly boring to watch. Throw in the fact that the season is more than half over and we continue to lack the ability to play fundamental baseball. It’s mistake after mistake after mistake...and they transcend every part of our game...pitching, hitting, fielding, base running, and most importantly - coaching.
If this year we’re an anomaly from our normal play, then I would excuse it as such. But we watch these same mistakes year after year now. This is where our program has gotten to...average players playing below average baseball with coaches who obviously don’t stress fundamentals.
I never thought I would say this...but I miss Jack.

I don’t miss Jack. I do miss Wilhelm.
Jack was an arrogant a## that wouldn’t retire when he should have. So he forced this result. This is all on Jack.

It's not rocket science. One can debate the whys and hows as the original post pointed out. We can point fingers at certain coaches but Wilhelm did one thing right. Mike Martin FSU did one thing right. Recruiting. Plain and simple. Who is responsible, coaches and their assistants. It's the same for any sport you choose.
Below article for 2020 is a consistent snapshot of the last two decades. You can point to one offs like coastal carolina and make arguments. But it's really simple. Recruiting. Clemson has steadily declined the last 20 years.

Unfortunately you’re correct. Wilhelm has to be rolling over in his grave.

Your assessment is exactly how I see it. There are a few bright spots, Grice at bat, Teodosio in centerfield but the program overall is in a measurable decline.

Just another yawn fest at the Doug. Here are other top programs and rowdy crowds and yet we could be but just aren’t. It’s like littlejohn it’s cozy and something to do until football.

and how is that on the team itself?

seems to me that it is all on the fans. I constantly hear people talk about how great Clemson baseball should be, yet even in a normal year the stands are half full, and you rarely hear a peep on the board about baseball. I can count about 5 posters who even acknowledge that a game is being played. And don't give me the whole "if the product was better we would show up" argument. even when we were average in football the stands were packed and the board was buzzing. We have won 3 out of the last 4 ACC series and NO ONE! was mentioning baseball on the boards. but here yall come now......

How many teams had winning records when we beat them? Monte is running up his win totals against the dumpster teams. Then he faces good teams or teams with superior coaching and we lose. Difference between football and baseball is that we have beat great teams when it mattered. No where near the same. Monte needs to go. We need a completely clean slate with no hold overs!! Everybody goes!!

If you ever venture onto SEC forums there is a lot of baseball talk. It’s very serious on LSU’s forum in particular

Also many people are mad way doing tickets. I know many fans who go and can’t. I got lucky and got tickets this year. Clemson baseball is becoming basketball. Monte lee is becoming Bowden.
