and someone puts (unsolicited) an R OR a D by their name on their college application, I'd toss both applications in the trash can. Just for no reason other than they're dumb enough to identify one way or the other, and think that makes a difference.
And if I was questioned about it, I'd certainly never go on social media ranting about anything other than what was stated above. People who define themselves, and more importantly OTHERS, by their party affiliation or politics, are not well rounded enough to receive a college education.
If I designed college applications, there would be only a spot for gender (for housing purposes). No race, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, whatever.
LSS - Admissions officer should be fired, and dude's application should be in a trashcan, along with the admissions lady's firing letter.

identify in your application as an "R" when that clearly isn't related to anything on the application, you are one of the crazies. Same would go for someone who identified as a "D" or "I" when your voting party has nothing to do with your application to college.
I wonder if that person thought they would include it in the Clemson application since it is a Southern Small-Town University and being a card carrying Republican helped them get in. LOL, Clemson DGAFF about your party affiliation.

MY problem is putting your affiliation out there, period. If you think that makes a difference on your college application, or your business, or whatever, you're already at a disadvantage in life, really. If you make a widget, and everyone wants one, and you make millions selling widgets, why take your widget company and then associate it with 50% of the population, and alienate the other 50% of your widget-buying customers? It's DUMB. Period. This goes for the "woke" BLM supporting businesses as well as the MAGA supporting red-state businesses. It's just dumb business. It's dumb to expect anything better by putting it on a college application too. In fact, it's a major red flag showing you're likely incapable of learning or obtaining a well balanced education. Everything taught to you will then necessarily flow through some political lens, and that's not a quality education.
But some people are more than happy to affiliate with a political party, movement, or whatever, and they limit themselves in doing that to a niche. You can make a killing selling MAGA hats, but you can make an even larger killing selling BLM, MAGA, Greenpeace, Don't Tread on Me, Confederate Flag, NOW, LGBTQ hats, and ALL HATS. You're a HAT company. Want a hat, here it is. Period.

I attended college in the early to mid 80s. I can not remember a single professor , Coach, nor anyone ever mentioning politics. They talked about , well, the subject matter. What has happened?

Nixon had attempted this way back with his "southern strategy" to attract blatant and latent racists into the Republican party. Gingrich really studied the us-vs-them history around the world and then figured out out how to make a coalition out of angry white morons, fundamentalists, and chamber of commerce types. DJT came along and completed the move of all the angry white morons into the republican party, but chased out most thinking people. So the GOP is still at that same 30-35% number after all that time, but they've become a party dominated by angry white morons.

Yeah, AP is a real diamond in the rough isn't he? He'd be a great teammate for the office, bringing lots of positive energy and good ideas.
This story is incredible. It is an embarrassment to Clemson and all of us, and so is the other story linked about professor Knijnenburg.
This negativity and fake news is deeply engrained in the democrats and progressives. The TNet libs have said for years all this type stuff is fringe when we cite it happening all over the place, mainly starting in the NW and NE. It's here. Pay attention.
Words matter and the rhetoric from the left is not only driving violence all over the country but it is also driving this kind of ridiculous thinking. Look at all the cops ambushed over the last two years. Could it be related to all the peaceful protestors chanting "kill the cops?" Well of course it can and it is.
And you better believe there are many more inside Clemson who think like these people but who are smart enough to not post on social media.
AP: check your news because more people in the US now identify republican than democrat. The newt remark (and others) are quite revealing.
