Clemson & SC - TVs
Jun 12, 2012, 12:53 PM
|
|
I have read so many times that Clemson would not bring anything to the SEC, because SC and TV drawl. Has anyone seen any facts on "TV drawl" between Clemson & SC games? Which school IS pulling in the most viewers per game? If it is SC, then I wonder if that is because of opponients - it cannot be to watch them?

"TV draw" not "TV drawl".

The Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson metro is like 30 something in the nation. Columbia is like 70th. That's not counting the many fans and alum we have in Charlotte and Atlanta.

The SEC figures they already have the Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson market with UGA and USuC.

several times that say increasing their geographical footprint and moving into new TV markets is what they consider when expanding their membership.
The SEC is already carried by TV stations in SC, TN, western NC, and GA because of current SEC schools. Our joining the SEC would do nothing to expand either their footprint or TV market.

but but but... what about all those on here who say that recruits (and their parents) don't want to travel for games? Surely the SEC will take a step backwards in recruiting if they move into new territories!!

SEC states are contiguous. Big 12 states (including FSU and Clemson) are all over the map. Big difference.

If the big 12 added Clemson, FSU, GT, Lville, VT and ND.....they would have 2 sets of contiguous states.
set 1: Texas>Oklahoma>Kansas>Iowa>Illinois>Kentucky>WV>VA
Set 2: SC>GA>Fla
One state separates each set (NC)
In yo face coot.

I don't see Missouri bringing a lot of interest and TVs with them to the SEC. They 1) dont follow Mizzou that much 2) they won't bring national matchups.
That "geographic expansion" will only work for so long. If you are just bringing in another Ole Miss, it won't hold. It would't make sense for the SEC to grab Southern Miss. But if FSU or Clemson became 'free agents' think the SEC would jump on either of us before they grabbed a team like NCSU.
VT on the other hand....that gives you a new market and a TV draw.

The SEC is no longer chasing nelson points, but cable boxes. It creates a different dynamic on how they view markets and they feel that they have SC, GA, FL, TN, KY, MO, MS, AR, LA and TX tied up.

Clemson play, I, and my Clemson buddies, are watching SEC football to watch the coots lose. THAT is why we add no TV value to the SEC. The network marketing boys all know that. And that's why they are not willing to pay up to the SEC for bringing us in. It's not complicated.

Just three years ago you would have never seen anyone wearing coot stuff around Greenville, it's all around now. I think some of it has to do with the thuggish colors.
