Chrome helmet idea

Jan 15, 2015, 7:41 AM

Found this on ClemsonEditz Twitter page this morning. What's the likelihood Dabo and Co. would actually let us wear it? Go easy on me, for those of you who are hard-core tradition keepers ;)

I know a lot are against it, but that is a sweet looking helmet. I would like to get one like that for my collection. I would like to see that helmet worn in one game. A big game.

Re: Chrome helmet idea

Jan 15, 2015, 7:55 AM

I think it looks sharp, but don't know if I would like to see it in a game. I'd have to see a full uniform to go with it and see it out on the field. But it sure would look good in my future man-cave. Better than that, it would look really good as a racing helmet.

I don't like the helmet. You can hardly see the paw, and that's what Clemson is known by.

Jan 15, 2015, 8:36 AM

May I not choose my friends? May I choose not to have any friends? Does the Constitution demand that I apologize for being one who chooses no friends?

No, that's all bullchit. The Constitution clearly forbids racism but the real issue I have is that blacks don't like me because I'm a Cherokee Injun. It has to do with the money Cherokees get from the gambling and stuff. I don't get any but blacks think I'm lying.

"State leaders revived the institution in 1866 as the University of South Carolina with ambitious plans for a diverse university that included the first African-Americans to serve on the board of trustees (1868) and the first African-American students (1873).

While politically controversial, this development was an extraordinary opportunity for South Carolinians at a time when opportunities for higher education were rare. The University of South Carolina became the only Southern state university to admit and grant degrees to African-American students during the Reconstruction era.

But with a nearly empty state treasury, the institution failed to reach its former status. Following the end of Reconstruction in 1877, South Carolina's conservative leaders closed the university. They reopened it in 1880 as an all-white agricultural college and during the next 25 years the institution became enmeshed in the upheaval of late 19th century South Carolina politics. "

Re: Chrome helmet idea

Jan 15, 2015, 9:35 AM

Wouldn't mind seeing it in a kickoff classic in a dome stadium (I think it looks better under domelights)...but other than that I think the "chromed-out" helmets have run their course. I'd like to see the uniforms changed up from time to time, but in more original ways than just relying on chrome/matte of the helmet.

Re: Chrome helmet idea

Jan 15, 2015, 10:56 AM

It's a balancing act between tradition...and the latest crop of players, for whom tradition is largely unknown, especially on the uniform front. They see what other schools do and, frankly, it's part marketing effort, too. Done right, the changes can engender working for the 'right' to wear a special occasion uniform/helmet. It's difficult to imagine a straight-up replacing of the helmet and uniform.

The chrome helmet with the road whites under the lights....that could get a team jacked!

Doesn't matter what people on here say, it's Dabo decision. Me personally I don't think he will let them wear these helmets, he's too traditional. The players will definitely love it though.

Let's give all the players medieval plate armor, like knights wore. That's pretty traditional and flashy.

It'd not our uniform, but it would be cool.

I'd like to see a white helmet with an orange tiger paw for the military appreciation game - but that's not happening.

The last thing Clemson will experiment with is the orange helmet with the white tiger paw. That is our brand.

I have that on good authority.

Jan 18, 2015, 9:39 AM

know nothing about the school and traditions other than what they see on EsecPN.

If you want to make an impression on a group of recruits, get them on campus for official visits, take them down to the locker room before the team loads the bus to go around the stadium and then show them something like this - they are the first ones to see the "special uniform item" that the team will debut and wear once for that game only.

Let them take pictures hit the world with it. You just let them into a special group. Now they feel like part of Clemson. Sign'em up!
