Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 6:12 PM

I was thinking about Clemson's WR corps next season with the additions of Cain, McCloud and Bell. I was thinking about Peake and the injuries that have kept him from really putting a full healthy season together.
I was wondering, if he could stay healthy for his senior season next year, what kind of season he would have to put together to possibly get a high draft grade. I really feel that, if healthy, he has the talent to become a high draft choice.

I really love the way Peake attacks the ball with his hands, much the way Hopkins and Watkins do. He has legit game breaking speed for a WR his size. They say he was faster than both Watkins and Bryant when they were here.

If Charone can put together 70 catches for 1,100 yards next season, then I think he has a chance to be drafted as high as the second round. I'm really pulling for Peake to stay healthy so that he can finally showcase the talent he has.

Williams on one side, Peake on the other and Watson in the middle should scare the crap out of everyone we play next year.

LOL....where is Scott?

And Cain and McCLoud?

at Clemson. They have great potential, but a healthy Charone Peake has shown what he can do. Unless Cain and McCloud show out in the spring to an extent equal to or better than Deshaun Watson did in 2014, and manage to stay perfectly healthy, a healthy, hard-working senior Peake will be a starter.

Sky is the limit for peake...

Jan 10, 2015, 6:16 PM

Capable of being the best WR in the country if healthy.

Then basicly...

Jan 10, 2015, 6:19 PM

he would over take Scott and Williams in the Spring, which I don't see happening.
And I expect Cain and McCloud to be the number 3 and 4 receiver.

Peake has a huge battle to climb, IMO....Just to contribute.

charone peake if healthy will start in 1 of the 3 wr spots.***

Peake could've been second best behind Watkins if not for the injury. Hopefully he gets healthy and stays that way in 2015

When healthy Charone Peake has the potential to not only be the best WR on our roster, but also the best WR in the ACC.

I think he could beat Scott or Williams easily. What makes you think Cain and McCloud are just gonna come in like they own they place. They are just the next in line playing behind other 4 & 5 star guys. Charone was a 5 star by a couple recruiting services.

When Peake is healthy, he is one of the most talented WR's on campus. Heck, when he's healthy he is one of the most talented WR's in the nation. He has the rare combination of size and speed. He attacks the ball at its highest point with his hands. He runs great routes and looks smooth in doing so.

The talent is there and if he had been healthy the past couple of years, then he would likely be looking at possibly being a first round draft choice. Injuries have been the only thing holding Charone back. It surely hasn't been a lack of talent.

I doubt he was as fast Watkins, even if he was ; I'm sure his speed has diminished, somewhat; due to his injuries.

I think it was Dabo who said that Peake, Watkins and Bryant would race all three race during practice. He said that Watkins and Bryant could never beat Peake in a foot race, and that Peake was the fastest guy on the team. It surprised me. Peake has elite speed.

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 6:27 PM

]Peake is not one of DW's favorite receivers. He is going to have to make every opportunity count. If he only catches 20/25 balls, they had better be for long gains and many TDs. That is the only way he gets noticed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Charone Peake will get noticed - Clemson is WR U!!!!

Jan 10, 2015, 6:36 PM

After the year Martavis Bryant had with Steelers, all WRs at Clemson will be noticed and evaluated.

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 6:48 PM

I think Peake, like Blanks (on D) is out wild card. He's been in the system so long that he knows every WRs assignment, which should allow him to rotate between X and Y.

So in terms of when both Sammy and Nuk were here.

Peake plays both Nuk and sammy's position, primarily Nuk's (X), backed by Cain/Hopper.

Williams is at Sammy's (Y), backed by Thompson and Hopper.

Scott and Ray-Ray rotate at the slot position.

Could also see Cain getting cross-trained at both X and Y so he can play wherever we need him in the event of any injuries to our WRs.

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 6:49 PM

I don't even think he needs to have the best year of our wr group next year to get drafted. He just needs to stay fairly healthy. He's demonstrated the ability to make tough catches across the middle, be a deep threat, and attack the football. He's very fast and has elite size. He is a known commodity to nfl scouts. If he catches 40 or more balls, stays healthy, and scores 7 or more times the. He goes by day 2 of the draft..

I agree, Peake will get drafted if he is healthy and stays healthy. I was wondering what type is season he needs to go in rounds 1 thru 3.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 7:36 PM

IMO it is already there if he stays on the field. That catch he made in the Georgia game from DW was awesome. The talent is there he needs to stay healthy. That knee has gave him a lot of problems.

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 10:10 PM [ in reply to Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft ]

Again, stay fairly healthy, 40ish catches, 7ish TD's, and a good showing at the combine and it would be hard for him not to go late 1st to early 2nd. He league knows about this kid.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Charone Peake and the NFL draft

Jan 10, 2015, 10:29 PM

I agree with alot of people on here that Peake will produce as well as any receiver on the team if healthy. He's got everything the pro scouts are looking for and should go by round 3 at the latest, once again if he stays healthy. I hope he has a banner year!

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If he stays healthy all year, Dabo & Staff

Jan 11, 2015, 1:01 PM

will LOAD him up, where he'll get into the first round. It all depends on his health.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're at the point now where we don't need our WRs to grab 100+ balls to get drafted.

Jan 11, 2015, 1:12 PM

He'll be used in a way that's best for the team. Too many weapons on our side of the ball, to show our hand.

Cain and RRMIII will also 100% be used this season. Early. And often. Our best players will be given plenty of opportunities to make the big plays to win games.

Dumb argument, anyone trying to make the case that either of these 2 will have to wait to see the field. Both are 5-stars. That was a period at the end of my last statement.

They'd be the only 5-star WRs we have, minus Peake, by one service.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: We're at the point now where we don't need our WRs to grab 100+ balls to get drafted.

Jan 11, 2015, 3:39 PM

I don't think anyone is arguing that Cain or McCloud aren't talented enough to come in and produce right away. It was the other way around. Some think that Peake isn't talented enough to start if healthy with those studs coming in and that just isn't true.
