Chad Morris’ scheme

Jan 2, 2018, 7:15 PM

We’ve seemed to abandon some of its principles (jet sweeps, temp), and are drifting slowly towards a pro style offense. I honestly thought we’d dust off the old Tajh Boyd era’s playbook to cater more to KB’s strengths. The 2014 Orange Bowl game vs Ohio State offense is what I was envisioning this season.

Smash mouth spread was the vision Dabo had in the offense, one that Morris didn't exactly implement. That being said, this coaching staff, like any good stuff should, schemes around what they have available. We had a great defense this year and a run heavy offense, when combined create a dynamic that works better not going up tempo nearly as much.

It’s hard to argue about our scheme when we

Jan 2, 2018, 7:22 PM

we’re so balanced this year, but I tend to agree with you that our offense seems to have lost some of its creativity and most importantly it’s tempo.

Question that I have pondered all season is, did we adjust the offense and temp to fit KB’s abilities? I have full trust in the coaching staff that they thought KB gave us the best opportunity to win this year and based on the results it’s hard to argue.

With that said, one can’t help but wonder if KB was just a “place holder” until TL shows up and HJ gets a another Spring under him. Hopefully we will get back to an aggressive up tempo offense next year if HJ and TL are as advertised. Even with that we missed having the threats of Mike Williams and Jordan Leggett. Those guys kept defenses honest. We need a playmaker(s) to step in those positions next season or I am afraid the offense will look very similar again.

We haven't been balanced though this year.***

Tempo part was because of a lack of quick strike passing abilities.

Well we done what I envisioned, on 1st down, run the ball straight up the gut of Bama's defensive strength!!!

It seems we tried outBama Bama, which is never a good idea. Bama’s offense was actually more innovative than ours was last night.

No Artavis Scott or Sammy Watkins

sort of kill the Jet Sweep right now. RRM3 and AR are good just no good on the JS. Kendrick coming in just might make the JS dangerous again.

What were Johnson and Lawrence recruited to do?

Jan 2, 2018, 7:44 PM

We're obviously moving toward a pro style offense. We have Johnson with one year behind him and Lawrence coming who may not need a year to prepare. If Chad's smoke and mirror offense was the best we wouldn't have recruited these guys.

Tajh was too good to pass up under the conditions Dabo found our program and the position he was in. Chad was hired to deal with Tajh and we lucked into a QB who was talented enough to run both styles offense in Watson.

Don't be discouraged because we are leaving the past, that's all part of growing up as a program.

I agree, good assessment. Change is clearly coming, otherwise why recruit and sign multiple pass first QBs. This year the offense was tailored to KB's strengths just like it was to DW4's strengths the last couple of years.

Agree totally and if we would have gotten White it would have moved more so next year . Why recruit 2 5* Pro style QB to run a RPO attack? Fields makes more sense if not transitioning.

We have no credible game plan and lousy play calling. It has been so obvious. There is no true offensive coordinator. We have talent but don't take advantage of it.

Quit complaining, we had a great season, Bama was better than us. Our o-line sucked last night no Qb would have looked good if the blocking was as shotty as our was. Get real sheesh

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Come'on Now.....w/the complaining!

Jan 2, 2018, 8:47 PM

We had a great season. The offense did a bunch of wonderful things this season. KB a place holder, phah lease! "If anybody could do it" why would they not have put the younger guy in?
Valid question right? Younger guy more years to serve the program, "if it was that easy"! But, "it's not"! And now that many CU fans have been spoiled; "it's a problem"! Come on Now!

I have to admit................the bit about using more tempo would have done wonders for us. Syracuse is less talented.............but their tempo just killed us that Friday night in upstate New York. But, at the end of the day, whatever those coaches who know that particular teams strength's and weaknesses will be what I go with. As should any good fan! I see that.............and kind of think it should be just put on a "wish list"! But, no more than a wish list. We'll see what type of success Chip Kelly has a few years out of college football. And how Chad Morris does in the SEC running his offense. Auburn has as much talent as anybody. They run uptempo; but lost 3 games! Tempo and misdirection can only take you so far! Defenses have caught on a little bit to the tempo game. Nicki Saban just kind of says, " we can do a bit of that " but mainly I am going to tell you i'm running through that gap. My guy is bigger, badder, nastier than yours...........try and stop me. What's his win %? Pretty good.............What was Tom Osborne's? Really good. You need to pass it; but you also need to be able to run when you want to at the end of the day. It makes everything else work so much better! Oregon and Baylor when they were lighting up scoreboards were in the top 10 in rushing offense. Not as gloryful as the pretty pass or deep bomb. I think that's what we were trying to get to; we just could not through it deep with any consistency to keep those safeties out of the box.
But, i'm with this coaching staff. Whatever they go with.

Tajh would not have done any better against Ala,last night

Jan 2, 2018, 9:23 PM

no matter what the offense was

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Funny how we see it differently..

Jan 2, 2018, 10:54 PM

I think we need to get further away from the old single wing adapted spread and go to a straight pro set offense.
