Can we just do away with CFB rankings

FBS or Football Bowl Subdivision is made up of ten conferences, the first five are known as the Power Five and the next five as the Power Group. Have the 10 winners of each conference play for the NATTY. Figure out how to match up the 10 winners in the playoff games. This would reward the conference winners and do away with all the BS in rankings, etc.

The purpose of rankings is to generate hype and ratings. It makes Purdue’s beat down of Iowa seem like breaking news. While Iowa did have a good start to the year, I know from the past they don’t have nearly the overall talent of other elite teams and generally fall flat late in the season, therefore I don’t see the loss as shocking but most of America will see it that way because of the ranking system,

Need to go back to computers and that will end most of the SEC being ranked in the top 20 every year pre season.

It would also do away with having the best teams in the playoff. Other than making things easy, you really think a C-USA Champ, LA Tech, for example, ought to be in over the SEC runner up?

Yes. SEC runner-up had their chance and blew it. No do-overs

The SEC loser is obviously not the best team in the country.
Smaller conferences should be rewarded for their achievements with far less money and far less 5 and 4 star talent. They deserve to be invited to the big dance. Great coaching to get more out of less and a love of the game instead of just greed and arrogance.

Of course the SEC runner up isn't the best team in the country but they may very well be the second best. And you'd rather put in a small conference winner....because they have fewer stars, less money, more love for the game? Should the playoff committee consider things like kindness to animals and small children?

Swimmer is a big proponent of participation trophies, not a meritocracy. She also loves Joe Biden.

No .First off you cannot have a 10 team playoff.8 yes,12 as proposed is two teams to many and an additional 3 games if my math is correct. And how do you have a playoff with an independent Notre Dame ,which would benefit from not having to play that extra game. Then without a ranking system how do you match -up those 10 teams? You have to have some sort of ranking to make the playoff's fair.

Since when do we care about conferences?
Pretty sure most of the board is tired of the SEC SEC and ACC chants. The best teams are the best teams regardless of conference.

Automatic bids for conference champs is the dumbest idea possible and in no way matches the best teams in the country up. All conferences aren't equal and that's a known fact. Let's take UGA this year...most level headed people would agree they're at least a top 4 team this year. Let's say they slip up to bama (a team most other teams in the country would lose to as well)...they should then be left out with one loss for teams with 2-3 losses but won their conference playing unranked teams in their conference championship to get in? That's ridiculous, and the only reason you think it's fair is because we have a cakewalk to the playoffs every year in the ACC.

HMMMM. NFL, MLB, and NBA as well as NHL all send division (conference) winners to playoff games. I suspect, the best teams out of the 10 conferences or drop the two weakest, and have 8, will end up in the natty game. And ND can join a effffing conference or be left out.

A few distinct differences between CFB and professional sports
1) Fewer teams. There are a total of 32 teams in the NFL. In CFB terms - two mega conferences.
2) Far greater parity. The revenue share in the NFL endures small market teams like the Tennessee Titans can have similar resources as the San Diego Chargers
3) Draft picks are given to the teams with the worst records. This increases parity top to bottom. In CFB there are teams with nothing but 4-5 star players and other D1 schools without a single one.
For comparisons sake In 2020 - the SEC revenue share per school was 44 million.
In 2020 - the MAC revenue share was 10 million
AAC was 7
Does it feel to you like it's the same league when the resources are 4x? With NIL the gap will increase.
The reality is the NCAA should create another division for the larger more profitable programs.
