We all better pray and hope that the ACC TV deal is going

Apr 22, 2013, 1:47 PM

to make money that will be close to what the SEC is hauling in. If not this GOR is a big blow to Clemson football. JMHO.

What is the Per School Dollar Figure that would suffice?

Apr 22, 2013, 1:51 PM

20 million per school? More? Less?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can we all agree that...

Apr 22, 2013, 2:00 PM

We're not going to get SEC money? Football drives TV revenue and the SEC is king, like it or not... But we may be doing pretty well once we ink a deal for an ACC Network.

What is the current per school revenue figure right now for the ACC? 14 million per school? I think the SEC is 22 million before their new deal.

Apr 22, 2013, 2:06 PM [ in reply to Can we all agree that... ]

not going to happen untill some school(s) in the acc win the nc or be in it and at least several teams show the quality in this conference is better than the overall perception is now. tv and nc go hand in in hand. sec has won many in a row and how can we expect the money to be the same when the acc is horrible in bcs games.

Re: Can we all agree that...

Apr 22, 2013, 2:11 PM

Hard to argue with that. The only way to change perception is by action, so hopefully the better teams in the league will win big when on the national stage. Starts with a win over UGA, and I'll take a VT win over Bama, haha!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Barker's fare well present to Clemson .... signing that GOR

Apr 22, 2013, 2:10 PM

will be the death of Clemson Football. Better win it all this year, cause the gap between ACC and SEC is about to be huge.

Re: why should they sign? what value does it bring?***

I think, to some extent, it saves us from being forced to go to the Big 12, should FSU have chosen that course. Yes, it may take away some leverage, but I don't think we liked being in a position where we had no choice but to leave for the Big 12. It may have come to that with FSU's wandering eye.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

with Louisville coming on board the chances of FSU leaving

Apr 22, 2013, 3:00 PM

probably decreased considerably...this agreement helps the weakest revenue producers the most...and the greatest the least.

Apr 22, 2013, 4:17 PM [ in reply to why should they sign? what value does it bring?*** ]

hear BS rumors that Clemson and FSU are leaving, this will allow them to rest easy.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. At one point or another, there were rumors of:

Apr 22, 2013, 4:22 PM

UNC going to the Big 10 or the SEC.
NCSU going to the SEC.
FSU going to the SEC or Big 12
Miami going to the Big 12
Clemson going to the ACC or Big 12
UVA going to the Big 10
VT going to the SEC
GT going to the SEC, Big 10 or Big 12

All of this represents a Mexican Standoff of expansion and it could have been extremely detrimental if Clemson or any of these other schools started firing first. I think we saw that at Maryland but luckily the ACC brought in a vastly superior athletic program at Louisville to take their place and maintain stability.

It's an act of desperation by the ACC to hold it's member

Apr 22, 2013, 3:51 PM

schools hostage. The $50M buyout didn't work so this is the next step. A good strong conference doesn't need to keep its members hostage for media revenue.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Joining 3 other desperate leagues evidently:

Apr 22, 2013, 3:59 PM

The ACC becomes the fourth league with a grant of rights, along with the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12. The SEC is the only conference among the "power five" leagues that does not have a grant of rights.

Who is this mysterious "ACC" that holds its own members hostage?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd guess the Presz know the deal before they voted.

Apr 22, 2013, 4:09 PM

Also, no one's mentioning it, but A STABLE confernce can negotiate better.
