Can someone explain to me how the WF loss to NC doesn’t count against their conference standings

I am not sure why or how that works, but we had one a couple of years ago versus UNC

It was a “rivalry” game they wanted to schedule. They already have 8 other conference games

Clemson didn't have a non-conference game against UNC a couple of years ago. That game in Chapel Hill in Mack's first year back counted as a conference game. It was our rotating opponent from the coastal that year like Pitt was our rotating opponent this year.

They scheduled it as a non-conference game. It's rare but not unheard of.

I think he meant divisional standings. So at the end of there are ties

It is a non conference game, the NC schools have been doing it regularly in years they aren't scheduled to play in conference competition.

When we expanded the ACC, they were placed in opposite divisions despite being major rivals. To come to an agreement, the ACC agreed to give them protected rivalries with one another to keep the rivalry up, and they played those two protected rivalries in 2019 and 2021. We have 0 history with Pitt, and didn't sign a contract years ago doing so with them.
