He may have the stuff. But he will get broken if we run him out there at 185lbs. It will be a testament to our nutrition program to see how much good weight he can pack on by fall camp. If he commits this summer to powerhour and nutrition I bet he could thicken up to closer to 195. I think he’s got a year of development in front of him before he should be starting.

Can we stop using Renfrow as an example, he is the outlier. Name another player with his body type having his kind of success. I'm not saying Cade can't be successful at his current weight, just stop using Renfrow as your defense.

DJ shed 30lbs. That’s a ton of weight for a qb to be carrying around. I’d say he’s right where he should be. An 18 year old kid who’s 6’2 and 185 will get destroyed by a 21 year old 6’2 line backer who’s 235. There’s just not enough mass to consume that hit. Plus the oline is still a big ? If Cade was closer to 200 o believe he’d be a lot safer player college ball

If DJ improves as much as he needs to we won't see Cade on the field for more than mop up duty until the' '23-'24 or even '24-'25 season. I hope DJ has a breakout season or just a return to what he looked like in '20-'21 and stays through the '24-'25 season. If so we")'re going to be good for the next to years and when Cade takes over he'll be ready in all aspects I bet.

At 240 pushing 250, let’s be honest. DJ was fat and slow. Ben Rothlesberger-esk. At 210/220 after losing 30, he’s the right weight. I was 200 and lost 30. When I hit 170 I could run with was and do 8 miles a day. The weight is huge. Let’s see if he turns out to be the guy we wanted after all. I still have hope, and admit I was a hater last season.

With the right weight training and nutrition, if they do indeed “bulk” him, he can easily be 210-215 looking at his frame. If you put the kid on a squat rack and made him deadlift with a good strength Coach he’s gonna add 20 lbs in his lower half alone., I think 220 is realistic, he’s gonna get a ton of beginners gains just from lifting properly and hitting each muscle group, high school programs just don’t have the experienced staff or time to do all that (we lifted
In the off season and one hour 3 days a week before practice. Deadlifting and squats will be the key, those two lifts really thicken the body, make you more durable and release tons of testosterone which will
Fast forward protein synthesis and make the other muscles really grow. I’ve done 6 month bulks and gained 80 lbs early on in my lifting career and 80% was muscle, he can easily gain 300lbs of clean muscle in 6 months (March-august).

I will say, part of your assessment is spot on. HS Strength and Conditioning is nowhere near what a P5, College S&C is. With proper diet, nutrition and jacking steel he will likely be close to 200 by kickoff vs GT. Not worried one bit. Hmm, is it just me, or is his frame very similar to DW4? He was ok I think. In fact, imo his worst year was when he burned up too much and struggled early in the year while adjusting.

He looks EXACTLY like Deshaun his first Spring. He's going to put weight on. He's been here 2 months and he'll have 5 months before August camp but it took Deshaun until his sophomore year to start thickening up.

..for most opponent passing yardage in the storied history of Notre Dame, and the biggest comeback in the entire history of Death Valley?
The guy played two games and some mop up duty and still passed for just shy of 1,000 yards. 67% completion rate, 5 TDs, 0 INTs. He played like the 5-star he was coming out of high school.
We all saw what happened last year. He got knocked around, sacked 7 times, hurried all night, and threw a game-deciding INT for a score.. to start the season.
He got shell-shocked and never recovered. But that was about 20 lbs ago, along with completely lost confidence with a mentally straining family crisis.
He's lost the weight. He's been in QB school, working on footwork and release, and you would like to think the family deal is more settled too.
Regardless, he's worked hard. He's obviously a committed player and true Tiger. He came back when it would haven't been a surprise if he decided to transfer back out west. He came back to accept the Klubnik challenge.
At least see how it goes for DJ before you trash him and crown the new guy the savior. If DJ plays like he did in 2020, then we can go undefeated.

I’m not sure I can think of a player that has ever been considered elite that had an entire season of collapse because he got “shell-shocked”. Adversity is part of every season. The best don’t flinch.

I mean seriously? There are COUNTLESS college football players and players in every sport and level who shat their pants at the beginning of their careers, only to turn into high round draft picks, or hall of famers, etc.
You're just making stuff up... you must have a man-crush on Cade?
Otherwise, get behind DJ and hope for the best. If he can't get right mentally or physically, then hopefully we have someone who can play at the elite level needed to make the playoffs.
But get off of DJ already. He showed he's capable, and for the reasons listed he lost his way. He may very well return to his proven potential. I'm rooting for him. Let's see where he ends up before being dumb fans, pretending that no great players ever have struggles in their career.

Can Tnet stop with DJ = Tate Martell? Ok, he had a bad year where bad was evident all around the offense. He’s respected by his team, and clearly has put in the work to improve. Will he improve back to and beyond what we saw from him in South Bend? No idea, but this narrative that it’s a foregone conclusion that Cade will be the better QB in September seems very speculative. If DJ returns to his freshman form the offense will be very effective, and Cade will get a valuable year as a capable backup.

Totally agree. I met Cade at a baseball game last week and he looks like Renfrow when he was a freshman or maybe sophomore. Remember DW4’s freshman year? Don’t want to see CK have to battle through that many injuries.

I fully believe he’ll weigh in at least at $200 lbs starting fall camp. 15 lbs between now and August is very doable. And I actually think he’ll play at 205 through his college career. Doesn’t seem like he’d be able to carry 215 comfortably.

Power Hour is the name of the program that redshirt freshmen go through during season, so Klubnik will not take part in Power Hour.
Klubnik will be on campus all summer and training, but quarterbacks do not lift much to bulk. He will lift heavy on legs, so I do expect Klubnik to have some thicker legs when the season starts.
Klubnik is also 18 or 19 years old, and it’s pretty uncommon for QB’s to come in at 200-215. Klubnik reminds me of Deshaun. He looks like a baby deer on some of his runs the way his legs are moving all over the place, but he’s a winner. He’s going to make the big play in the big moment. I think Cade will be just fine whether his body looks like an NFL ready QB during his freshman year or not
