UCONN to ACC?

Nov 19, 2012, 1:27 PM

http://tracking.si.com/2012/11/19/uconn-acc-move-realignment/?xid=si_ncaaf

I've really kind of kept silent on ACC expansion as I really didn't have a problem with PITT being added (we'll see on Syracuse), but I think adding UCONN may be a big mistake.

Can someone convince me this is a good move for Clemson if it happens?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Terrible move, and Swoffy will be an idiot for it.

Nov 19, 2012, 1:28 PM

Isn't he all about academics, too? Yeah, UCONN won't help that cause either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wut?

Nov 19, 2012, 1:33 PM

uconn is the top public university in the northeast and a top 30 public university according to us news.

they have their own law, medical and dental schools.

Re: wut?

Nov 19, 2012, 1:37 PM

They're coming off a NCAA tournament ban for low academics. There's clearly a different standard for athletes

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maryland is the reason those penalties were invented********

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

clearly that's the case at most universities; calhoun let

Nov 19, 2012, 1:41 PM [ in reply to Re: wut? ]

it bite that program in the ###, but to say uconn doesn't fit into the acc's academic profile is ludicrous.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their football scores are constantly low too, IIRC

Nov 19, 2012, 1:44 PM

Swofford likes when the athletes are putting up good grades. UCONN is not doing that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay, they were 38th in APR. Not too bad.

Nov 19, 2012, 1:47 PM

Maybe it's just basketball. I stand corrected.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no worries.***

Maryland was cutting programs........

Nov 19, 2012, 1:37 PM [ in reply to Terrible move, and Swoffy will be an idiot for it. ]

and they don't seem to be looking to invest more in football or basketball. UCONN may be willing to spend more on their programs and will probably be able to raise more from their boosters with the move. Plus, isn't ESPN in Conn.?

Nov 19, 2012, 1:38 PM [ in reply to ...but they play in Hartford. Yuck. * ]

Yeah, but remember you can get to anywhere in CT in less than an hour.

I spent two weeks in Groton, CT (next to Mystic) right before Sandy came thru and it only toke me 1.5 hours to get there from White Plains NY.

If the ACC takes UCONN, when Clemson plays there, you guys have got to go to New Haven for pizza. Many good places. (Modern and Bar where my favorite)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

basketball is already good enough

Nov 19, 2012, 1:32 PM

no need for another bball power(which will fall now that Calhoun is gone)

Re: UCONN to ACC?

Nov 19, 2012, 1:48 PM

UCONN seems to have had a deal that when the ACC needed a team next, they would be it. I think this ###### was written just waiting for a need to kick it in. It was probably in place for if ND joined, UCONN would be 16 but not they will use it to replace MD.
