Not true. We gave out 8 walk-on scholarships to 5-hearts.

B.S. Renfrow signed his LOI and came in as a R.S. freshman. When he got his weight up he got his scholarship. Just stop. That was the plan all along.

Dabo has never been big on JuCo transfers...

and frankly, I don't blame him.
That said, he's going to have to get on board with the transfer portal at some point. Otherwise, since he's relying largely on Freshmen to fill those gaps of those Clemson player who enter the portal, Clemson is going to be a young team year after year.

Was referring to the annual 5heart that is gifted a ship towards the end of the cycle; but ok, (2 mentioned) they get too many snaps, did so from day 1, and their offer sheets don't quite reflect their star rating. But at worst they are serviceable.

Their offer sheets were short because

everyone knew where they were going. Everyone awards scholarships to walk ons who have been in the program and a scholarship opens up.
People have been complaining about how Dabo manages his roster for 10 years. They complained when Adam Humphries was offered, and Nolan Turner, the Spector's, Coty Sensabaugh, and many others who were productive players.
They complain that a guy like Darian Rencher gets a scholarship as a 6th year player. Complain we didn't get a quality QB to transfer in when our current QB was a preseason top 5 Heisman candidate. Complain we didn't get a quality receiver to transfer in when our position group was considered top 5 preseason.
Just a bunch of noisy wind

You start sounding like Dabo when you say well we went to national championships around here doing things the way we do things. That’s also a valid point. But…
Things have radically changed the last three years!
Only a fool would ignore the fact that Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State out recruit us pretty much every year AND they all have starters on both sides of the ball from the transfer portal. And they are all currently better than us.
Oklahoma and Texas are getting better also. So is Texas A&M.
If things don’t change at Clemson very soon the only way we’re going to be making the playoffs consistently going forward is because the playoffs expands to 12 teams. Anyone paying attention and being honest knows and understands this!

So players can come play in the middle of the year? Players transfer because they are not good enough to start where they are playing currently. Or they can’t get along with someone where they are currently. People act like every transfer is Joe Burrows and truth is He was a 1 in a million. Play the guys you recruited!

Burrow was NOT one in a million......

watch College football every week.......you see them in EVERY GAME transfers making impacts/starting for ALL teams across the country (sans Clemson, Air Force, & Army).
you say "play the guys you recruited".........problem with that is 20 players since 2019 have transfered OUT of Clemson.........that's an average of almost 7 PLAYERS WE RECRUITED PER YEAR. You can't afford to replace their scholarships w/ #1 WALK ONS and #2 the next Class (b/c then we'd be "too young" every single year).
like it or not the portal is here to stay and Dabo MUST, he MUST adapt or the success he's had will quickly become a distant memory.

Well I will stick with Dabo. He has a record. Plus have you not listened to him every time He talks about say that when appropriate He will use it? I guess He is just lying. Keep in mind his record !!!! Also what great player has transferred out that Clemson has missed? They transferred because they did not get playing time! I think the program is in fine shape. Again these guys in the portal can’t help you this year.

This is correct. In order for a “Joe Burrow” to have come

to Clemson over the past few months, he would have had to anticipate that he could beat out DJU.
Obviously in hindsight there might have been that guy out there.
But, nobody (including all the dumpers) had any idea that DJU would struggle, so it guaranteed that no “Joe Burrow” was coming to Clemson.
Things could be completely different NEXT off season.
But that is then! It’s not right now.
Reality NOW is that this team was considered “set” by coaches, fans, pollsters ... everyone.
Only now are the brilliant minds using their rear view mirrors to show how smart they are.

but when you have a number of highly recruited quality players leave the program to enter the transfer portal, you have to replace that talent and depth and unless you want to be a young team year after year. You can't continually do that with freshmen.

Who left that you are referring too. Most of the guys that transferred did so after they graduated because they were not getting to start? Who transferred?

transfer readily to Clemson. If a transfer lacks credits and doesn’t project to come in with a chance to graduate on time, Clemson is not going to recruit them.
We have a restricted number of majors compared to a lot of schools who find a way to get JUCOs in.
SCAR is big in the JUCO market for instance. That speaks volumes.
In general, guys go to JUCO for a reason. They’re not great students.

Dabo's portal policy means it is a one way street.
It has hurt out depth. Examples - Pinkney would be valuable with the DL injuries.
Ditto for Mellusi with Shipley hurt and Dixon gone at RB.
I'm not saying we need to s of portal transfers in, but a few linemen, especially offensive, wouldn't be a bad thing.
Ditto for D linemen, and especially a solid QB.

There could be special gems in JUCO's and Portal Transfers. Just because it may not work somewhere else does not mean it couldn't work at Clemson. Clemson could be the safe haven a player needs to bloom into a complete stud thats ready to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.
Just look at some of these walk-ons we have had in the past. They were good here and playing a lot but probably wouldn't be doing much anywhere else. Scott Pagano was recruited here and did very decent. Went to Oregon and it didn't go all that great...and I enjoyed having him at Clemson.
We recruited a linebacker...a good 4 star from powerhouse Buford High School in Buford, Ga. I forgot his name at this moment but he was on his way to start or split time in one of the upcoming seasons and then he just didn't want to play anymore.......that was the strangest thing.
I love that we develop players for 3 or 5 years. I also think that there are immediate needs and position gaps if managed right can be filled to benefit us at a present moment as well as long term. I think someone could really do just as well as the ones that have walked on here at Clemson and done well. All some need is a chance.

....so does LSU....so does Kentucky....so does Penn St....so does Michigan...and dare I say it....Georgia Tech...Florida St....Wake Forest..and Pitt also has academic standards. I'm not sure what the standards are at Cincinnati and Iowa...but football-wise some of these programs are doing okay with less.
Clemson has been blessed....but if we are just going to dress out and just stand there...fine. If Clemson wants to continue being elite and competing for trophies..then there is going to be a big time struggle if you expect 26 or so freshmen is going to get it done year in and year out because 10 or 12 might decide to jump ship. I don't know any football national champions that were like the Fab Five in basketball.
