Bubba Chandler and Will Taylor. This is question to all

Jun 21, 2021, 6:18 PM

Clemson loving, orange coated glasses, etc. father’s, which, by the way, I am one of them. If, by chance your high school senior son was assured of $4mm+, why would you turn that money down just so you can see him run down the hill. I do not know either families financial situation, but, as a rule, most people do not over $4mm.. I would advise my son Tom”take the money and run.” You can always back and get your degree.

First I don’t think the 4million is guaranteed. Kids sit in the minors for years and it’s a grueling work schedule. Zero time for a personal life.
Second if the 4million isn’t guaranteed what happens if right out the gate a career injury or some other freak accident.
Lastly, earning a degree at CU will at least give him career insurance in case a sports career doesn’t pay out.

I think its guaranteed for those contracts. I could be wrong. They are guaranteed for MLB at least. I think these are guaranteed as well. Anyone else have some insight?

No. They get that much money guaranteed, what they do with the rest of their baseball career is up to them.

OP, a kid would have to be insane to turn down the money. You can go back to college at any point if you want. A Clemson grad, after 10 years, averages about $57,000 a year (average starting salary is about $40,000). The average Clemson grad will never make $4 million in their entire lifetime (they'd need until after they were more than 90 at the 10 year average to equal that). If you conservatively invest that $4 million at 18, you're looking at money to support a family for generations. The idea of turning that down in favor of "career insurance" is unbelievably dumb.

Definitely take the money and go pro.

They can attend college any time. And even come back for football if baseball does not work out. At $200,000 per year, it will take them 20 years to earn $4,000,000. And good luck making $200K per year out of college.

The play is to take the money and invest intelligently while working on baseball career.

You take the money. It's a slotted guaranteed value just like the nfl. I would question a families mind if they turn away 4 million in this world. You set aside 250k for future college and roll with it. The college experience is worth about 10k max. Girls, fun, and travel will come the 4 million. I would have serious questions about recruiting tactics if these guys were guaranteed that money and came to school. That is multi generation altering money!

If you get offered first round money, like a $4 million signing bonus, you go pro.

Bubba Chandlers family has money.
He's Clemson bound. I don't post much but you can count on it.

Yeah but the family's money is not his. $4 million of his own would be hard to turn down. I hope you are right though.

My guess is that Taylor will come to Clemson

Jun 21, 2021, 10:50 PM

Don’t forget if they are good enough in baseball they can still go pro just like our other players who are good enough. Maybe not first round money but still a chance at pretty good money. And who knows, they might be first rounders then.

Will Taylor's family is financially secure also! Still 4 mil is nothing to sneeze at!

Those guys are projected to get maybe get $4 million now figure taxes clear and you clear about $2 million. The minors pay about double in salary than they use too. Unless one of these guys is a sure thing like Chipper Jones, Andrew Jones, Freddie Freeman or players like them that $2 million is not as much as it sounds like. By playing a couple of years at Clemson baseball they build up and mature. They made need a confidence boost to. 2 years from one or both may get $8 million next year or the year after. There are approximately 825-850 MLB players. The odds are slim that both of them will make it to the big leagues. With more and more players being drafted from other countries its tuff to make the Big’s.

I wish them both the best but if I had a chance at that age to make different decisions, I would go to college at least 2 to 3 years. Please s Monte Lee is right. There is nothing like the college experience. Get your degree and build relationships with the athletic staff. Clemson coaches really look out for former players so they have that to fall back on if they need employment.

Are they being recruited for football??

Let's not forget how many players over the years have turned down the NFL to either finish their degree first or play one more year with their brothers. Spiller, CW42, Etienne, etc.

Granted, I would assume odds for injury in football are much higher than baseball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly, I would go pro and I wouldn’t think twice about it.

Jun 23, 2021, 7:14 PM

The 4 million is guaranteed. Even after paying taxes you would still have a lot. Be very smart with it and you’ll be fine for the rest of your life.

What’s the goal of every amateur athlete? Be a 1st rounder

Jun 23, 2021, 9:24 PM

Why pass it up? No guarantees it comes back around. Ignorant to pass it up. Honestly, I am surprised Dabo hasn’t advised them to go.

A tale of two QBs, both recruited by FSU, both highly ranked baseball players who turned down FSU's offer and signed baseball contracts.

Both were told by Bobby that if things didn't work out, their scholarship offer was still good.

1. Chris Weinke: Took his signing bonus and invested it wisely (with his dad) in real estate. Baseball didn't work out. Came to FSU and Bobby gave him a ship. He lived very well while in college, due to his wise investing. Things worked out well for him.

2. Joe Mauer: Highly ranked QB. Also a highly ranked catcher. Signed a baseball condract. Made it to the majors and had a great career, making more than one all-star team. Things worked out well for him.

The moral of the story? Not sure there is one. Just pointing out that "taking the money" can work out well for you no matter whether you succeed in baseball or not.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Monte needs these two much worse than Dabo.

Holding on to guys like this can get a coach a CWS title.
