Bryant isn't the guy

Great Runner, but we saw in the Ohio State game what a good defense did to a QB who can't make accurate throws under pressure. At some point Johnson or Cooper will take over.

I agree he is not the guy, somebody is going to have to step up if we are to win more than 9 games this year.

I don't know, I remember how bad Taj was the first time he played. We'll see.

big part of our offense is the being able to stretch the field and the threat of taking a deep shot. Teams will load the box on us and force Bryant to beat us with his arm. Against talented defenses like Auburn and FSU, our offense would struggle without a downfield attack. It is going to have to be cooper or Johnson.

maybe we can line up with Tucker Israel sitting on Bryant's Shoulders? Does this count as an extra player?

I don't think we'll have anybody that can throw it downfield

with anywhere near the accuracy and effectiveness DW did. However, I remain unconvinced that Cooper, Johnson, or Israel will be that much more effective than Bryant. We certainly didn't see anything yesterday to confirm that. I expect us to lose a couple of games this year that we would have won with DW. Don't get me wrong, we will be good at QB, at least compared to most of our competition, just not as good as we've become accustomed to.

I agree with Tigerbalm1, the threat of a deep shot is what keeps defenses on their heels. Watson to his advantage, and to Clemson's', wanted to be more of a pocket passer this year and establish that. With that, sure he had less rushing TD's, etc. The key was though, he could beat you with both his arm and his legs. Don't see that confidence from Kelly yet. Kelly's still not there yet, or we would be going into this season saying " yep, Kelley has definitely stood out even though pressed by 5star Freshman and second year gun slinger. I don't know how it will turn out, but with Bryant at helm all the time as " starting QB" I just think of teams loading the box and making us one dimensional will come quickly.

You can believe we showed no one the offensive plays we will use this year plus with our OL our QB's will have more time and they will not see a better defense.
The coaches did a good job of changing the offense every week last year an I believe they will do the same this year to keep teams off balance and to give our QB's an advantage. Streeter did a heck of a job with setting Cliff up for the game against Oklahoma an I believe he will be vital at helping our QB's this year.
Our offense will look like a dynamic team against other defenses. I will be surprised if Hunter Johnson doesn't win the starting job. He only has had 15 practices where everybody else has had at least a year in the system. He played great considering the lack of time an experience. This kids going to be special.
I trust Dabo on ever who starts, so if Kelly does start I will know he was the best choice overall for the job. I thought Israel looked good too as did Cooper. Our defense is going to make many teams look bad and our offense is going to be great against other defenses.
I believe we can win every game this year up until the playoffs. I'm glad we have FSU at home and believe our defense will smack Louisville down after the Lamar talk last year and their OL loses.

I think Bryant is as good of a passer as nick Marshall who was a play away from winning the title at auburn. Lamar Jackson just won the heisman despite not being a great passer. Alabama just rode a great defense and first time starting QB who wasn't a great passer to the title game. Bryant doesn't have to be a great passer for Clemson to win.

Bryant missed several short flares passes, not just downfield passes. He doesn't have to be D Watson, but he better be able to threaten multiple areas of the field. I have yet to see this from him. Cooper looks better suited at this point, but he needs a lot of work. We will need to focus on one of these guys when practice starts back to get him ready for the season. If it's Bryant I am worried.

Our defense is the best and knows the plays better than the offense.
The pecking order at qb will not be determine to after summer workouts by design.
Everyone has a chance.
This offense needs to have a qb that can throw down field.
3 years in the system and still can not do it. Hope he proves us wrong.
We need them all to stay with the program for the year.
We have another coming in August and another great one in January.
That give us 6 qbs. Not going to happen. 2 will not be qbs at Clemson.
Can we win with any of them ... sure. Can we win a NC with each of them ?
It will be how the others advance than how Bryant does. My 2 cents.
We have best defense ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryant does NOT HAVE...
Apr 10, 2017, 7:02 AM
|
|
"a lot of experience" as is being implied by some
He frankly has very little actual, meaningful game time experience
Recall he was the 3rd string QB last year
Coaches (rightfully so) had more confidence in Nick Sh. than KB
This will have to be a huge huge summer for Kelly Bryant
Coaches will have a lot of good spring ball tape to show him
Just to my untrained eye, I hope he can come back in the fall (This is really for ZC and Hunter as well..)
- really getting some chemistry with Deon on the back shoulder throw. DW 4 made a living on this
- run with his head up and ready to pass. his WR / TE are gonna be wide open as soon as he steps like and gives the threat to take off if he is looking downfield. this requires knowing the playbook inside and out
- ton of 2 -4 min drills. how many times did DW4 close a half / game with a 2-4 min drive to rip the heart out of the opponent
I too think ZC (or Hunter) should get half the reps with the first team OL, as they really do put more pressure on Defensive Coordinators. If Kelly Bryant struggles first week of fall camp, will be interesting to see how short of a leash he has with Dabo-Jeff-Tony.

Just from the little I saw, I would rank the QB's: 1. Cooper 2. Johnson 3. Bryant 4. Israel
With Johnson only slightly behind Cooper. I don't see Bryant ever playing QB as a starter. He should seriously switch to a different position IMO, but I have no idea where to put him. He would be great in the GT offense IMO, but we don't run that. (But I guess we could have some of that just for him_).
