He is a great hindsight 20/20 coach.

I initially thought he was throwing the players under the bus, but I think that he pointed out the little things wrong in the details. It's like his statement. It's not really that bad, but the timing of it and the situation make it a bad mistake.

It just seems like Brownell misses the little details in his press conferences, as much as he does in his coaching. I try not to second guess specific decisions. Had he not called a TO and VT hit the 3 pointer, we would have questioned that. If we foul, VT hits the free throws to tie, and we lose in 2OT's then we question that. Tight losses always mean that you should have done something else, but you don't know what that might be until it doesn't work.

The only decision that I will question at this point and time, will be if Brownell is still coach next year.

when he names a player or position that didn’t execute in a game. He could have said Dawes dropped his assignment, but then everyone would be calling him out for blaming the loss on his players.

He still didn’t take ownership. He could have said (truthfully) something like “I obviously didn’t convey what I wanted them to do.” Instead he threw the player under the bus, just didn’t say his name.

He could have.

He chose otherwise, but I thought PJ won the POTY tonight. My god, what heart that young man has.

How about having a taller defender in the game? Dawes is barely over 6 feet tall

He has to burn a timeout at a disadvantageousness time because his players don’t understand situational basketball. Then, after using the timeout to explain it to them, they do the one thing they shouldn’t do under any circumstances. He definitely needs more time to get this right.

Man I played sports growing up and a player imo should not have to be told to challenge a shot. If you are a competitor you challenge the shot. Not on Brownell imo and I could care less if he stays or goes but these are college kids and instinct should kick in at some point.

He should call out whoever it was that decided to stay in the huddle after the TO. No excuse in letting a player go all the way down the floor with no passes and basically shoot an open 3. I’m sure the player knows and feels it’s on him.

Yes that’s a backhanded way of blaming the player, in college athletics is all on the coach. He’s played millions of dollars to coach a handful of guys, and after heartbreaking loss he blames the player. It’s an excusable, and needs to be a commentator on the ACC network. I cannot believe this guy makes so much money for what he does

Was Brownell playing the ball. Again you should not need a coach to tell you to challenge a shot. That is inexcusable imo. Like I said I could care less whether he stays or goes but these are
college players on scholarship not a church league rec team. I’m sure he did not need to be called out if he has a competitive bone in his body then he knows that was on him.

Hopefully the guy will be better for it going forward. Played scared to lose and left him wide open. Blame whoever you want to but I will stick with the man that should have had his hand in his face.

LMAO. There are so many parallels between brownell haters and hysterical liberals.

Are you going to provide a full quote? I'm not sure where you are pulling that from, but here is more detail than f what he said in relation to the final shot. Nothing wrong with what he said and if you have a problem with it, you need to seek counseling.

“Obviously brutal. Brutal ending. Just incredibly proud of the way our guys competed, not just tonight but throughout the season,” Brownell said. “A lot of adversity, and our guys just kept getting better and being coachable and working through things. We didn't play as well for a while tonight. I thought Virginia Tech was really good in the first half and controlled the game, but our guys just kept hanging in there and made some really good basketball plays at the end of the game.

“But give Virginia Tech credit; huge shot by Darius Maddox. They got a couple rebounds in the second half that hurt us that led to points, but certainly this is painful. I thought my guys played well enough at the end especially to win, and we didn't guard the last play very well, and they made a big shot. Congratulations to them.”
