Bourbon question

I am a bourbon and water drinker. I won’t tell you my bourbon of preference because you will ridicule me. All I’ll say is it’s cheap but it has a “bite” that I like vs Makers Mark, etc. However, I do like Buffalo Trace for special occasions. Problem is I can never find it. Is there any store in the Greenville area that has it on their shelves?

Try wine and you won't have to worry about any of that stuff.

an online liquor store with the catchy name of liquorstore-online.com, to check brands and prices.
That old Van Winkle feller REALLY thinks highly of his hooch! Bottles STARTING at ~$7000 and up? The absolute CHEAPEST Van Winkle 12 year old rot gut was ~$3500 a bottle?
Man, I made my career in the wrong bidness, for shore.
Good thing I am just a beer drinking Bohemian, you could go broke in a huge hurry drinking bourbon!

There’s nothing wrong with drinking cheaper bourbon. If you like it, that’s all that matters. Don’t worry about the snobs…
That said, it’s difficult to get Buffalo Trace around here. I’ve randomly come across it on the shelf but that’s rare. I have a store in Greer and one near Clemson that keep it in the back when they get some…you have to ask for it.

As the father of a Clemson graduate who is dying of cirrhosis of the liver as we speak, I beg you guys and gals to drink responsibly. My boy didn’t think it would happen to him. I tried to warn him and his doctor tried to warn him but to no avail. Please, please drink in moderation.

I’m sorry to hear that. I know a couple people that died from cirrhosis. One at 50, the other at 52. Both were waiting on transplants. Both were refused transplants because they continued to drink while waiting.
Moderation is a necessity.

we were hanging out and they pulled out some buffalo chase.. started sipping on it.
They poured me a glass and then started yelling at me when i mixed it with Coke.
I dont know how you people can drink that stuff straight.. like drinking the old school Listerine.

Buffalo Trace is one of my "go to" bourbons for an every day sip. I have found that it available 25% to 33% of the time at my favorite store. First I think the stores hold it back for their regular customers so try to develop a relationship with the workers and then ask for it every time you go in.

Hard to find around here. It’s on allocation, so when they get it, the stores hold it for their best customers (that’s how I get mine). Develop a relationship with a specific store and ask them to put you on the list when they get it in.

Makers and Centenario (Reposado).
I went a little crazy last week and got a Buffalo Trace and a Glenmorangie (Scotch).
The BT is great with a little water and ice. Gotta let it breathe for a minute.
I haven't opened the Scotch yet, but I think, like you, I'll end up saving those for special occasions.

Buffalo Trace is one of my go-to everyday sipping bourbons (I like one ice cube). I stopped drinking Maker's years ago when they changed the recipe (watered down 2% more), and was mad enough that even when they ended up (supposedly) not changing it, the decision was made. Also like Jefferson's Reserve and Barton's 1792. I'll buy an unfamiliar bottle now and then, trying a Basil Hayden or some such usually with positive results but not enough to break me out of my habits.
But for mixing with Coke or sour mix, why sully a good bourbon? I use the cheap(er) stuff, like Old Grand-Dad or even Jim Beam.
Having so much trouble finding Buffalo Trace, etc. I branched out and determined that I really like Tin Cup. Not technically a bourbon (it's an "american whiskey"), but I drink it all the same. My local liquor store will usually have one or two handles of Tin Cup when I go in.

www.wine-searcher.com may be helpful. Depends on how many SC retailers are participating

Everyday Buffalo Trace has gone scarce in my region as well (Kentucky & Tennessee) but there's no rumors of it going to allocation like Eagle Rare did a few years back.
My go-to for everyday sipping and occasional mixing is Very Old Barton's white label, better price point than Makers or BT. However, about 7 years ago, I toured Maker's and signed up for their ambassador program, which last fall, I was able to access my barrel in a batch and have it bottled exclusively for me. Now I have my name on another barrel for 6 years down the road.
I won't admit how much I bought.
