Tony Elliott not calling plays was huge !!

I think he was the missing X factor and the main reason we got beat.

Um, defense may have played a part, but I could be wrong.

This edition of Clemson football has had some glaring weaknesses all season.

OSU was clearly the better team last night.

We'll be fine.

Any time the Get Back Guy doesn't have to rein in Venables much, it doesn't bode well for the outcome.

However, IF we could have had less 3 and outs we would have had more points and OSU less possessions!

Doesnt matter who would have been calling plays, defense couldn't get to fields, couldnt stop the run, couldnt cover the receivers, our offense could have almost been perfect and still lost this game, play calling sucks, the second series where we were up 7-0 and we stopped fields and got the ball, and went a three and out and looked like crap on offense, i had a gut feeling then that was our chance to make a statement and we didnt, we didnt have the killer instinct on either side of the ball. Bama would have mutilated our db's they got ate up all night, olave ran past them like they were standing still. i hate it for the Tigers, but this game showed that we were not prepared,, to focused on a team that didnt deserved to be there and it backfired.. Well i hope we can get some to stay another year and recruit some faster db's and some tall and fast receivers, hopefully Ross will play another year at clemson. look for some players to leave. and its time we start allowing some transfers even if its for one year.. everyone else is feasting on transfers.. ohio state had fields, and the running back from oklahoma that ran all over us as transfers. where would they be without them

Sermon sorry, typed the wrong name Sermon , ohio state and several schools are living by the transfer portals and people saying it will destroy culture. ########, clemson has lost kids to transfer portal. is it because they were destroying the culture at Clemson, nope, they wanted playing time and sometimes these kids realize the only way they can get on the field is transfer and some schools know there are great players out there to get, if it wins championships, and they are worthy young men, give them a chance.

This was a rebuilding year with a new offense line which has been a problem for many years and the defensive line depended on 2 true freshmen. X. Thomas has been a disappointment and play calling was very vanilla. Ohio knew the pattern of our play calling. Also, OS plays with that thug mentality.

We couldn't run the ball all season with Elliott and we wouldn't have run it last night with him either. Our inability to run the ball, with the most explosive back in the country, means we have no ability to control the clock which exposes the defense when we finally play someone who can take advantage. Its been coming all year. I thought it wouldn't catch up to us til Alabama but I was a game too late. Teams that can't run the ball at all don't win national championships.

Lets see a review of the game...we couldn't cover long passes, short passes or intermediate ones...we had a lot of trouble stopping the run...our O line couldn't block the 'C' and TLaw was not on his game...glad we didn't have to play Syracuse or Florida State last night!

link

It was definitely part of it....

Posted: Jan 2, 2021, 9:47 AM

Part of it was due to bad offensive play calling after those first few Elliott scripted drives and the rest was defensive issues and coaching.

We need a good OL coach and BV and staff need to get their stuff together. The playpfgd will expose u and it did

What could Tony Elliott have done about...

our defense getting torched time after time, clueless defensive backs standing around while Fields threw to wide open tight ends and wide receivers, and our DL getting trucked for hundreds of rushing yards?

Our offensive line is garbage. Elite teams (and some not-so-elite teams) shut our run game down. With very few boundary receivers and little time to throw the ball, just what do you think Elliott was going to call that would have magically made our OL capable of giving Trevor a clean pocket for more than a second or two? HE WAS RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE ALL NIGHT!!!

Get a clue. This wasn’t about play calling; it was about horrible defense and a pathetic OL. Missing most of our wide receivers didn’t help either.

Looks to me like Venables not calling plays was just as big!

Ohio State had over 600 yards in total offense.

I am pretty sure that Elliot doesn't call defensive plays.

I really do not know how much of a factor Elliot being unavailable was. I know he does not tackle for the defense or get people in position.

I think a lot of people have forgotten how young this team is overall. We have more talent on the front 7 than ever before but they are very young.

The simple fact is that OSU dominated the LOS on both sides of the ball last night. Our OL is also very young and we lost all our starters from last year.

The defense will continue to get better as they mature.

Then again if Skalski, Spector, Turner, Pinckney and Williams are all gone we could be worse on defense next year.

We lost the line of scrimmage battle.***

Both of them, offensive and defensive. I just hope that

Bucknut team shows up against Bama, it would be an interesting game. However, I do not think there is any chance they dominate Bama's lines like they did ours.

Did TE call Defense also? Man, sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other guy and admit he was better on that day.

If he can't block or tackle he wasn't helping ####***
