Elon Musk

Jan 21, 2022, 8:49 PM

I’ve spent the last hour or so watching YouTube clips of Elon Musk interviews. I’ve been up since 430 and I’ve had a few drinks , so I don’t have the energy to provide a lot of links to support my conclusion on him. But of all the technology billionaires out there, I have more respect for him than any of the others.

He is the closest resemblance of an idealistic genius that I know of. Watch his podcast interview with Joe Rogan from both 2018 and 2020. He is clearly focused on making the world a better place in my opinion. Tesla was created with the idea that less carbons in the world will make the planet live longer. That’s obvious. SpaceX was a horrible idea from a economic standpoint. I think Musk feels like it’s in the best interest of humanity to understand space. I think the most underrated business of his is NeuroLink. It’s a computer chip placed in your skull that repairs brain injuries. And just the last few days the clinical trials in humans have been announced. It’s a very exciting thing to say the least.

In his Joe Rogan interviews they discussed artificial intelligence at length. This is also connected to his NeuroLink business. He stated that it’s possible in 10 years that humans can speak to each other without speaking.

If you have an open mind I encourage you to investigate Elon Musk. He seems incredibly special in my honest opinion. I firmly believe that all of us are going to be shocked where we are in the world in 10 to 15 years driven by technological advances. The exponential shocking advances in technological know-how is a real thing. You are very naïve if you think that the world is not going to be way different because of technology before you know it.

If only he’d make his solar roofs more affordable

Jan 21, 2022, 9:24 PM

Right now it would cost me roughly 25 years of power bills to pay for one. The issue is his fixes will benefit the generations that come after but only a few people now can afford what he’s offering.

Have you factored in how ouch you could put back into the grid and what those checks could look like each month?

My wife’s cousin went all solar and he puts back and gets on average $150 a month. Sometimes higher in the summer.

less carbon.

and it took me 2 seconds to come up with that.

Genius is a relative term I guess.

the dude is exercising stock options. He has to pay the tax on it, but he still makes boocoup dollars.

One could argue that at least 40% of the company's success can be attributed to American taxpayer largesse. He should be fucken grateful he is allowed to build cars in this country when he writes that check.

No other nation on earth is as generous to business as this one with American citizens propping it all up with blood and coin. Private gains, socialized losses. Don't forget it.

"showman"

For a showman he sure has a lot of tangible accomplishments.

He may have used tons of gov't money, that is the government's fault, not his.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are so wrong and so uninformed.

Jan 23, 2022, 9:03 PM [ in reply to Howard Hughes 2.0, but with a cult ]

Howard Hughes inherited so much money. Hughes would’ve been much more wealthy if he had put the money he inherited and fund that paid 2 or 3% a year. The same thing applies to Trump. You idiots who think Trump is a genius don’t understand that he inherited $400 million decades ago. He also would’ve been better off from a network standpoint if he had invested his money in savings accounts.

Musk is self-made. He didn’t inherit anything. Get your facts straight.

I just listened to part one. This seems like sour grapes to me. His parents didn’t pay for his college as he needed to get student loans, and his mom invested 10,000 in a company and his dad invested 28,000 in a company. I think it’s safe to say he’s self made. Yes he was lucky with the way PayPal sorted out for him. But every billionaire has had breaks along the way.

Jan 22, 2022, 6:53 AM

leader, at least in the manufacturing space. Big ideas and big promises-some of them have come to fruition and will advance society. However his timelines are always wildly unrealistic, and a lot are a punch of hype that he doesn’t execute on.

He very much reminds of Trump just talking pure personality.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have you ever been in a self driving Tesla? It makes adjustments going down the highway. It will come get you, without anyone in the car, from a parking space in a parking lot.

and they have a makeshift lane on the other side of the road made by cones, with those guys with the traffic signs, it cant handle that. And a litany of other non-traditional situations. That’s not full self driving. It’s cool what they can do. It’s also not a self-driving car.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He made a fortune creating PayPal

Jan 23, 2022, 1:23 PM

without government help so that blows your theory. If all he cared about was money he wouldn’t start an electric car company, a rocket company, a solar company, or NeuroLink. All these businesses have extremely high fail rates. He doesn’t care about money. That’s what makes him so interesting. He’s focused on improving the world.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he did not create PayPal

Re: He is a snake oil salesman

Jan 23, 2022, 3:27 PM

Snake oil salesman don’t build rockets that work. Both Tesla and SpaceX were within days of going bankrupt a few different times. He put the hundreds of millions he made from PayPal into the business. If you knew more about musk and his true story, your opinion would change.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Musk sent out an email to his employees a couple months

Jan 23, 2022, 5:41 PM

ago saying that if they didn't work over Thanksgiving to produce Raptor Engines for Starship that SpaceX would go bankrupt.

What he lying, full of ####, wrong or right because I don't think they fixed the Raptor production that week.

Then I get why you don’t like him

Jan 23, 2022, 6:47 PM

You are clearly personally connected to him through your family. I understand why you don’t like him and I would not like him either if I were you.

I have done further research on Musk since my op. He is more controversial than I realized for sure. Still at the end of the day, his accomplishments are unbelievable. Like him or not, it would be hard to argue that he’s not the most interesting an influential person in the world.

Even though it’s obvious he’s a complicated guy with flaws and enemies, I still think it’s admirable that he has chosen to start businesses that are good for the planet and not at the onset at least smart financial moves. What really amazes me about him compared to other billionaires is he started so many different types of businesses. That is clearly unique to him compared to the other richest in the world billionaires at times in the world.

If there is anyone in the world in that is an alien, it has to be Elon Musk.
