Hope the Jags Don’t Mess This Up

So, it looked like DE Hutchinson would be the 1st pick; 14 sacks last season for Meechigan. Now, they’re saying it maybe the Dog’s Walker, 6 sacks last season and only 8.5 in 3 years.
I would not care if not for TL and ETN but .. hope they don’t screw this one up.

Would that be the only criteria you would evaluate?

No. Hutchinson has the skills as a DE, Walker is still a work in progress. Walker was also platooned and was not a every down player. In regards to work ethic and character, would you pick a Dog? It’s a crap shoot.

Hutchinson probably has the better “upside” (in my worst Mel Kiper voice)

Hutchinson is the best player in the draft so hopefully the Jags will pick him.

How they're not trading back to beef up the line and add

other pieces to such young squad is baffling to me. I mean are those two DLineman can't miss perennial allpro's? MAybe, probably. But i don't see can't miss type players. They'll definitely help you alot but Trevor needs a massive dependable LT and RG. The defense already has a decent squad. The line was suspect all year. I guess they couldn't get enough bang for there buck in trading back The field doesn't really have that can't miss player this year. I thought for sure they'd be trading for multiple picks for the coming years. They need LT for sure. Tony Boselli is gone.

Trade back and get an OL. If there's no surefire #1 then there's less benefit in having the #1 pick.

Need someone to trade with. There isn't a surefire number one this year, so no one seems to be in a rush to trade up. If the Jags do something stupid, you might see a trade very quickly.

In their system his job wasn’t to get sacks it was to take on double teams and pull guys and clear the way for their LBs to get to the QB.
Either will be a great addition.

I would draft him. His size and speed is crazy. Like you said he took on double teams. UGA runs a 3-4.

I think the consensus among scouts is that Hutchinson will be great but has reached his ceiling while Walker has yet to plateau. Taking Walker would be a gamble, but it could easily pay off in a big way.

They need some OL protection for Trevor.

Both DE's are Good Players

But Jags need either Ekonwu/NCSU or Neal/Bama to protect TL16. Neither Hutch or UGA DE will significantly improve the Jags like keeping TL16 on his feet.
Last year Jags D held Buffalo and Josh Daniels to 6 points to win 9-6. A fluke yes. But OL is a much more pressing need. Ekonwu and Neal can play LT, RT and OG. And Jags o-line needs more help. Current LT Cam signed to long term deal today is barely above average.

They just signed Cam Robinson to a three year extension. I doubt they are going tackle with their #1.

It may not be a bad idea for the Jaguars to trade the first round pick for more draft picks and players

You've got to have someone to trade with, though. That's the issue. I'm sure the Jags would love to unload that pick and get multiple picks
