Blackman is clearly not the answer for FSU.

Sep 14, 2020, 11:16 AM

My how far FSU has fallen. Novell has a lot on his plate for sure. On the other side of the ball GT and an updated offensive game plan is kind of refreshing. As a fan of football I just wanna see some competitive games at this point.

Blackman is not perfect but he is FAR from the main issue at FSU.

I did thoroughly enjoy all of the overreactions shortly after FSU's first drive that lasted through the lightning delay. I sat there thinking, "this team was beating Boise St by 21 last season".

I'm one of the ones who hopes FSU is down forever. At least for the opener, they were still down for sure.

Progression looks bad, late throws, bad decisions. Granted he is not the only problem.

super happy for Tech - nice to see them throwing the ball

Sep 14, 2020, 11:23 AM

I think they still had some offensive chop block penalties

but so glad they look like a normal team now.

I also think fsu should go with another QB - I don't think Blackman is the answer - neither does my Noles friend .

I think Blackman is good. If he were on our team we would be thriving.

I could thrive at QB on our team and I'm retirement age with two reconstructed shoulders.

Blackman is really good

Sep 14, 2020, 11:31 AM

At getting sacked

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Give him some credit. He put on 20lbs.

Sep 14, 2020, 11:32 AM

Must weigh around 145 now.

Hey I’ll give you that for sure. That young man is tough! He has taken some serious licks over his career.

Blackman has been around forever

Sep 14, 2020, 11:32 AM

And never really progressed

There has been no progression of any players on their team. That’s why they hired Norvell. It will take him a couple of years to make a serious impact if he is successful.

I think he can do it, but only based on his job at Memphis. I really don’t know much about the guy.

I mean that’s really what I’ve noticed. He got the nod to start, and that says everything we need to know. Man Jimbo really took the heart out of FSU. Sad.

But again, I’m so very happy ??. I remember saying 20 years ago, “ we will have our revenge one day”... so here it is.

Blackman isn't the Answer

Sep 14, 2020, 11:38 AM

But he isn't their only problem. They have a talent deficit from their normal standard and it will take 2-3 recruiting classes to recover.

This year is about fixing culture.

Re: Blackman isn't the Answer

I do not think team talent is the problem. I do not know how true it is, but last year it was claimed FSU had one of the highest number of 4 and 5 star players in the conference. The problem is that most are undisciplined "individuals" and not team players.

I don't watch FSU full time but I didn't see a loaded team Saturday. Yes, I'm sure they didn't play up to their ability because Norvell is new and COVID puts new coaches in a major bind. But maybe some of their guys were overrated.

Let's see going forward. It might become clear after a few games.

Blackman is not on defense. They caved in 2nd half.***

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

Team culture is still the biggest problem at FSU IMO.***

at this point I think fsu is still trying to figure out the question

Sep 14, 2020, 12:16 PM

FSU has had no offensive line for years. I have nothing but respect for their QB's because they have been brutalized by other teams due to zero protection. The fact that Blackman is even willing to go out there and take the beating is a testament to his fortitude. I know he has to be hearing footsteps in his head every time he touches the ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unfortunately (for them), they don't have any "answers."***

Re: Blackman is clearly not the answer for FSU.

Sep 14, 2020, 2:50 PM

I won't beat a dead horse. I'll just say I agree with you.

James Blackman is not the guy to run this offense behind this offensive line. He takes too long to make the read and the throw, he is not a very accurate passer, he makes poor decisions when the play breaks down.

But, here are out options.
1. Blackman
2. Travis Jordan, or Jordan Travis. Either way, he can't throw the ball well enough to be a division 1 QB unless he was at a service academy.
3. Chubba Purdy. True freshman who is out with a shouler (non-throwing) injury that has taken surgery to fix (actually 2 surgeries).
4. Rodemaker. True freshman who isn't ready to play at this time.

Sep 14, 2020, 2:59 PM

I was underwhelmed with FSU. In fact it almost looked like Taggert was doing a great job cursing yet another season in the Doak.

Collins flat out-coached Norvell IMO and were I expected to see FSU have just enough of the better talent/depth to outlast GT... it didn't happen. The reverse happened. The wheels fell off GT in the first (turnovers, blocked FG), Collins kept them in it) and then they pounded FSU 16-3 in the 2nd half with a modern offense.

Blackman's life matters but you'd never know the way they block for him.
