Biggest concern to you on defense heading into next year?

Jan 20, 2022, 11:27 PM

I know we lost a lot of leadership with Skalski leaving but to me, my biggest concern is at CB.

We lost Booth and Goodrich and we have Davis and Wiggins replacing them.

First off, I think Wiggins might be fine but what has Davis shown us so far? Anyone trust their back-ups?

We also have Sheridan Jones, Malcolm Greene, two highly touted 4 star and a 3 star CB coming. It wouldn't be surprising for one or two of the new guys to be on the depth chart. Also, Jones has played a lot, and Greene has looked good at times.

We will be OK at the corners, especially if our DL applies the pressure we expect.

Keep forgetting about Greene

He is one of those much like Makuba who has outstanding high school highlight film.

Quite honestly, we are still lacking a little depth.

My biggest concern is the same as in ‘21 - injuries.

Like you I've heard good things and hope to see Wiggins blossom in 2022.

Fred Davis is a mystery. After his lack of judgement on one very bad day in 2021, how will Davis respond? Hopefully well. Perhaps he has taken some steps with the victims and their families to set things right for them and himself. Of course, that is up to him as he sees fit. Can't imagine how hard that tragedy would be to a 19-20 year old young man although I can remember what an immature piece of work I was in those days - wish Fred Davis the best and encourage him to work his behind off both on and off the field and stay strong.

Have not seen much from Jones to date but like Greene's efforts.

Shoot didn't remember reading about Davis' off the field issues

I hope he is ok.

He was one of the top rated corners out of high school. I expected him to be the next great CB at Clemson though I always thought he needed to bulk up a bit.

I hope he gets it together next year.

CB is our biggest concern next year hands down. We lost so much at the position. No one behind them was really able to prove much this year. But the front 7 is going to be freaking NASTY. Im loving Bentley in the middle to. Seemed to be one of our hardest hitting players last year. Mukuba will probably be an All American next year. The other safety and the 2 CB's are ? marks. We saw some good from Venables and Carter at the other safety. I still think the defense will be top 10 next year if not the best with the rotation we will have up front. We are talking about very little drop off in the 2 deep up there. I cant wait. If we score 30 points in every game we play I think we win them all. GO TIGERS!

My biggest worry right now is worrying about whether or not the defense is going to have to bail out the offense game after game.

Definitely the DBs. We have talent I believe but it’s unproven and you just never know. I wasn’t worried about DJ prior to the 2021 season and we all know how that went. But I’m still fairly confident in the talent we have. Lukus reminds me of AJ Terrell. I’m hoping he can contribute right away.

That they will let the other team score more points than our offense. Just sayin'

As I recall last year, we had problems with the offense allowing the other team to score touchdowns against them.

I'm excited by the promise of Goodwin and how many people seem to respect his abilities, but we haven't really seen it yet.
