Best Clemson concert memories

May 16, 2022, 12:51 AM

Though it wasn't at Clemson but at the omni in atl, I once snuck in to a Pink Floyd concert.

1987 the momentary lapse of reason tour. I had some friends going and I had $20 to my name at the time. They said come along anyway so I jumped in the car. So we get to the parking area and scalpers wanted $60 minimum... 1987 dollars... that was a lot. So I just know I am out of luck. All my friends had tix and were going in.

I said to myself what the heck and walked around to the back. There were about 3 or 4 other guys who I didn't know and just met following because they were in the same boat as I.

So I am looking in the glass door at people walking through the hallways inside and the doors only open out. This cute girl inside smiles at me and I points to the door. She pushes it open for us and runs. I walk straight across toward the seating sections, see security headed for us in my peripheral and sit in a seat. I am behind the stage curtain and I

Sit there waiting to be busted. They never came. I walk out and see the guy who was behind me being Frisbee. He looks at me and I shrug. Sorry dude. I use my 20 for a t-shirt.

Greatest concert ever.

In 1985 I walked into a Sting concert at Littlejohn for free. It was worth every penny. Very low key.

I remember that concert. There was no opening act. Sting and his band just came out and started playing. Also, I saw him on the sidelines catching a football during the game that day.

1977 ZZ Top in LJ. I had good seats but not floor access where security was checking tickets. I jumped from underneath one of the baskets and landed with my legs straight out and on my a$$ bone. I jumped up and made it into the crowd before security could catch me! How I'm not paralyzed is a miracle.

Pink Floyd ‘94 Division Bell Tour, Widespread Panic ‘96 or ‘97 I cannot remember but it was in LJ, and Ozzy w/Alice In Chains. Layne was in a boot after breaking his foot. Also saw The Rolling Stones but was up in a tree outside of DV. Was on a Sunday. We left after evening service to see them.

Seems like Clemson has stopped hosting concerts. A shame.

Sounds like most of y'all actually Left Clemson to go to concerts. Back in the day Central Dance put on fantastic concerts for free or close to it. I saw Smokey Robinson, and Flatt and Scruggs at the amphitheatre, but the best I remember was Chuck Berry in the Field House I think it was.

obviously could be different times, but around 1973 Lester Flatt and the Nashville Grass played the amphitheater. he and Earl Scruggs had split by then. A very young (12-14 year old ) Marty Stuart was in lester's band.
when I saw chuck berry at CU, it was in Littlejohn. Marshall Tucker was on the show, and i think Mother's finest was too.

Lester Flatt in the amphitheater was a great concert. As I recall '73 is close, but it must have been in '74. Even better was The Kings Own Mens Choir of Norway, free in LJ. We went to get extra credit for Western Civ 101, and we were blown away !!

ps - Western Civ was required, do they even teach it now?

My viewing of Chuck Berry was before Littlejohn was built I think. We were standing, not in seats and could stand up to the stage. Had to have been the Field House. Between 1966-68. I think Chuck Berry and Little Richard may have played multiple times at "night clubs" (dives) near Clemson. There was a famous place in Central ? But being a nice girl I never went there.

favorite was a "Free?" concert in Harcombe, by a Sha-Na-Na wannabe band, Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids. No fancy raised stage separating the band from the peoples, and the crowd was either standing or sitting (not much of that) in cafeteria chairs all around them. A GREAT time was had by all.

I didn't get to go to hardly any of the many good concerts that came through while I was at Clemson. Mostly because, they always seemed to schedule them for either Saturday, or SUNDAY night in the middle of the two week EXAM period. I was always having to cram my ar$e off, trying to pass courses, instead of "inhaling to the music" at the concerts!

The Rolling Stones in DV 1989 ... best by far!

May 16, 2022, 10:22 AM

Before that, it was Three Dog Night in LJ back in 1970.

In between ... Jimmy Buffet circa 1979 and James Taylor circa 1991 ... both in LJ.

The Rolling Stones, 1989.

This is not a great recording, but it is the audio from the Clemson concert in '89.
