Being old is crap

Mar 28, 2022, 1:21 PM

My advise to yall is never get old.
My heart and cardio used to be strong. Even after 50 I went to Camp Lejeune and set the geezer NC record for 10miles and 1/2 Marathon.

At 70 did OK at a dozen 5Ks with a best time of 22:50 which was good considering I weighted 190.

Today I as I near 76, spread 40 bags of mulch. It about killed me.
I wore my Garmin watch.

Average heart beat was 125 going all the way up to 149. It took me an hour. At 60 could have done that in 30minutes and heart rate might have reached 110.
Getting old is crap. Watch says I need to rest for 72 hours, and I agree.

Spreading 40 bags of mulch is tough on anyone. Good job. At 76, quite a feat. If I could just grow tomatoes like you.

tug,i just turned 75 last dec. and consider it a blessing and an accomplishment to have lived this long.look how many people die at a much younger age.there are a whole host of things that i know i'll never do again, but at the same time there's whole ####load of stuff i don't HAVE to do again starting with having to be controlled by an alarm clock and on and on.so much freedom to do so many things i didn't have time or energy for as i walked by on my way to work.instead of bemoaning the fact that as you age, there are restrictions, mostly physical, that come along as well, concentrate on your accomplishments.give yourself a pat on the back for having reached them, and then find things you can accomplish(within reason) that will remind you again that life is still good.from having read your previous posts it seems that you've done pretty well,so find and enjoy what you CAN still do,and forget about what you can't.

hoo -- fun post.
Do you ever take advantage of being old. I do. Folks will help you when you don't need it (I am lazy).

Relatives are nicer (thinking you might leave them something). The ratio is more old women than old men. Those biddies really butter up now that their choices are less.

My sleep schedules is ###, varies each day. I might stay up till 2am or go to bed at 8. I might sleep till noon or be up before the Sun. I don't use a clock, not even a calendar.
I eat good food, I drink the extra beer as why not?

My favorite things are bird watching on my as$ from my porch chair and pretending to fish. Yardwork is my main exercise. My life is good!
I often wonder how I ever had time to go to a job.

You don't know that. You might get interested when you hit 60. Footrace times are about how much time we put into training and how much interest we have. It is like golf or bowling or fishing.

I know - I am in shameful shape. I will haul in more.

For years Burton would haul me loads in his dump truck that were ground up hardwood pallets. That was some good mulch. He got too old to deliver and I got too old for that.
I can still handle the bags like at Lowes. (Side note, next week they will be 4 for $10).

Mar 28, 2022, 4:19 PM

As long as, you've nothing to moan about. I'll be 70 in June. I had my first heart attack at age 32 and at least a dozen since. Two open heart surgeries and a roto rooter on the two arteries which remain open.

I'm praising God for keeping me alive longer than any man in my family. I'm going to heaven but I ain't in no big hurry to git there.

Congratulations on living long and being primarily healthy.
