Glad Strong stayed with Louisville and the ACC but who

Dec 7, 2012, 12:40 PM

thinks he is really waiting on Steve Spurrier retirement at SCAR?

I have talked to Scar people who said

he will not go back because of how he and his wife were treated over their mixed marriage. Take that for what it's worth but many people in Columbia have said that is why he wanted to leave in the first place.

get this fellas. after next year spurrier is gone. Because he will get a taste of losing to clemson and will quit coaching.

I would definitely believe that...

Strong has mentioned this publicly and says its the major reason it took him so long to get a shot and why he did not get it intially in the SEC.

I was also listening to Louisville radio yesterday and the guy told a personal story of a conversation he had with Strong about interviews. Strong basically told him he was often "used" as the guy for the minority interview and once was actually in the airport waiting to board when another coach saw him and told him they had already offered the job to another guy and for him to go home. I believe the guy said he was planning to interview for the Minnesota job.

Being in a mixed marriage I can back that up

My wife and I still get odd looks from time to time. The worst is when someone is helping my wife and then proceeds to ask me for help assuming that I'm not with her. Or when we go to a restaurant for dinner and the waitress asks if we want separate checks to which I reply "No, my wife and I will have a single check please."

Bent, maybe it's not the mixed marriage, maybe she is just too good looking for you. Congratulations if you married out of your league though!

I was listening to Sportstalk yesterday and some guy called in who said he knew Strong and they were discussing the Louisville situation.

This guy essentially said the opposite of what you have heard. He said at the time Strong left he was somewhat forced out by Lou Holtz because Strong was more popular than Skip Holtz and the idea at the time was for the son to take over at some point. Lou recommended Strong take the DC job at UF as a better platform for getting a HC job - of course this took the competition away from Skip as well. Makes sense.

Anyway the guy implied one of the reasons he didn't leave Louisville is because he would like to coach SCAR if Spurrier retires in 2-3 years. Said he and his wife enjoyed it there.

I think it would be hard for anyone to pull against Strong, he seems like a great guy. I was listening to UT Sportstalk yesterday on iheartradio and word up there is Strong turned down the UT job without Louisville having a new contract in place for him; he instead plans to use the leverage to get raises for his assistants. The UT host said it made him even more disgusted Strong turned them down because not only is he a good coach but also is apparently a great guy.

He is a solid person and appears to be a good coach, however

Im not completely sold on him yet. He wasnt all that impressive at UofL until this season (even thought their 10-2 is like a WAC 10-2).

I'll be anxious to see how he does against some better competition. People say he recurits really well, but since Clint Hurtt's name came out in the Miami/Shapiro deal he has not pulled much talent.

UofL season this year is a product of WVU going to the Big 12. They could have easily been sitting at 7-5. They did win those games, but its not like it was a runaway 10-2 season.

Clemson would stomp UofL.
