Playing up to 17 games in a season.

Jun 12, 2021, 4:30 PM

Why are people concerned about this? How many games do FCS and Div 2 teams play?

FBS has a far better infrastructure to keep players healthy and safe. Better facilities, butter training (strength and conditioning) staff, better dietary experts, better rehabilitation.

If a kid at North Dakota State can play 15-16 games in a season and no one complaining about the NCAA abusing his body, then why can't a kid at Clemson or FSU or Bama play 15-16 games?

Because the level of competition is higher...duuuuuuh

Those cats at NDSU won't face as many NFL prospects in a season as Bama will in a single conference game...17 games is utter ridiculous for college students, a great deal of whom are teenagers

I agree with you.

But, 17 games is just as ridiculous for NDSU (I think even moreso) than for Clemson.

And my (sarcastic) point is this: The NCAA gives lip service to being concerned about the "student-athlete." But, when it comes to making more money, the welfare of the athletes is not part of the thought process.

I agree with all of that, and your last sentence is the part with which I agree the most.

Ironically, a friend of mine who had graduated NDSU and kept up with their team, said - about 30 yrs. ago at the time - there were more players on NFL rosters from NDSU than any other college, or university in the country. They may not face NFL prospects very often, but they sure put a lot of them in there.

Go Tigers!!!

I would love to see the stacked NDSU rosters from the 80's

Can't help myself...is the "butter training" something that started at FSU? Is it because of the lack of an offensive line (trying to get the RB's to "slip" through the lines)? Have a good day, Bret!

And then one of the guys later mentions the word "utter"!

One of the sided effects of our offensive line play is this: James Blackman is the favorite to win the gold medal in the steeplechase this summer in Tokyo. ??

Is fine. Most people disagreeing are stupid.***

That's the argument the bowls used

Jun 12, 2021, 6:48 PM

to try and keep college football from going to a playoff system. People are sheep that can't come to conclusions themselves and just regurgitate what they've heard.

Assuming they adopt the 12-team scenario, the only way a team could potentially play 17 games is if one of the teams outside of the “bye teams” (5-12) played a conference championship game, and then runs the table and wins it all.
It’s the potential of 1 additional game (16 total) for teams ranked 1-4 that make it into the championship game.
