Because our coaches have a QB development problem.

And as a result, he hasn’t improved much since he’s been at Clemson and they don’t trust him.
They don’t trust DJ either, but they still trust him more than they trust Taisun.

The major problem is that DJ simply is not very good. Lawrence, Watson, and Boyd seemed to have mastered the position without much difficulty. I don't believe the Clemson coaches have all of a sudden become stupid.

Boyd was the only one of those three to progress each year, DW4 was a turnover machine his last year, Trevor had worse footwork and mechanics his last year than his freshman year.

DW4 was a Natty winning qb his last year. His footwork was excellent against 'Bammer. And Trevor was in the Heistman conversation last year. His major weakness was Covid.

He was inaccurate vs OSU both times (made plays when needed but we could’ve blown them out) and vs LSU. As for DW4 we had waaaay too many close games due to his decision making that year. He was a baller and made plays when it counted as well, but both are way too natural talents to not have had more nattys and/or dominance.

2 Nattys in 3 years not enough? And let's be honest, they could easily have won two Heistman's. I beg to differ with you.

Watson was our full time starter and healthy for 2 seasons. During those 2 years he finished in the top 3 of the Heisman both times, played in 2 NC games, and won a NC. In the NC game he lost he passed for 405 yards and rushed for 73 while putting up 40 points. But yep, if only he wasn’t such a bad decision maker…

We would have beat Pitt, not had a close call vs NC State, smashed Troy, easily beaten Louisville instead of needing a defensive stop at the end... you are proving my point, he is THAT talented to do those things, but due to QB coaching he still couldn't get out his own way at times, and if he had we would have been as dominant as 2018 all season in 2016.

He passed for over 500 yards and we scored 42 points against Pitt that year. We would've won that game had our defense not given up 43 points. Watson is very talented, as is Lawrence, but the idea that a great QB has to play great in every single game and never make mistakes or else the coaching must be bad is pretty stupid.

You just proved my point, the evaluation of the players is they are so talented with physical gifts and abilities that it is wild that our QB coaches were not able to help them improve. Watch tape and mechanics instead of wearing orange tinted glasses 24/7

It’s not about “enough”, we are discussing QB development and if we had a the coaches to develop we should or would have won more. All I see is “we could’ve won 2 heisman trophies “ but guess why, we won none for a reason. And if we had that the 2016 natty and season would not have been so hard and we would have won 2019 at minimum and possibly 2020.

True about DW4's last year, 17 INTs. But he also threw 41 touchdowns and ran for 9 more. He's a riverboat gambler. And for the most part, it paid off. DW4 is afraid of footsteps. Also, very slow in making decisions.

he has all of the tools, and we have seen what he can do when he is not overthinking things. the problem is they have been working on DJ's mechanics, and not doing a very good job of it, or he did not start taking it seriously until recently. If you watch his throwing motion against SC, it has improved some, but he still is not comfortable and hesitates, which throws off his timing and balls come out late and behind the receiver. He is not far off. I really hope he stays the summer and keeps working, should have done that last summer.

I'm gonna call BS on that. DJ won the national title in high school, was widely regarded as the top QB in the nation, was touted as being a better passer than TL16 and a future Ben Roethlisberger, was seen as the best QB from our coaching staff, and broke basically every freshman passing record last year, including throwing for more yards on Notre Dame than any other QB in history.
Meanwhile, Trevor regressed every year after his freshman year, the more time he spent with Streeter. Streeter came to Clemson AFTER Boyd left, so gets no credit. And Streeter also didn't see success coaching Zerrick, Hunter, Chase, Kelly, or Puma, some of whom became better passers after they transferred elsewhere. The only QB you can point to is Deshaun, but he hired a private passing coach his freshman year.
I agree that Streeter hasn't all of a sudden become stupid. He was the worst QB in Clemson history, and has never shown the ability to help a QB grow and become a better passer. You're just now seeing it for the first time because Trevor's natural talent helped cover it up.

THIS ****
Do you not recall the coots trying to injure a player in garbage time? I don't think Beamer would allow it, but coot players were around a trash coach enough to forget themselves.
