This losing to coots in BB & FB has swelled their fan base

Mar 1, 2014, 9:28 PM

to where they are so difficult to live with..plus 80% of the sports clothing I see in various stores..and license tags & bumper stickers are of USC.

Doesn't this wear a little thin on you guyz..and how about the players & coaches themselves.

Is anyone able to change this losing situation? Doesn't seem money or very good recruiting is helping.

What say you? GoTiGERS!

Someone needs to wake up. I give generously to iptay just to hear our football and baseball teams shrug off coot losses.

It perturbs me more than words can describe. Not trying to make excuses, but these things are cyclical and also mental. The gamecocks used to get beat so badly they thought there was a legitimate chicken curse. We have had there number more over the years but the past five years they have had ours and this is indisputable. The only thing we can do is keep supporting our teams. When we gain our mental edge again and start piling up wins then we as tiger fans must make nothing of it and act like we have been there before, because we have many times. Right now our fandom is being tested more so than ever in my 23 years but I still love my school and nothing will ever change that. The tides will change and I will be no more or no less of a fan than I am now. Go tigers!

Beating Clemson in baseball hasn't swelled their fan base

Mar 1, 2014, 9:53 PM

any more than our beating SCAR in soccer and basketball has swelled ours. I want to beat the coots if we play them in tiddlywinks but the bottom line is that in the palmetto state it's all about football. Once, college basketball mattered in South Carolina and it could again. College baseball is roughly equivalent to college soccer. I enjoy both baseball and soccer and I want Clemson to win against every school we play (particularly against SCAR), but college baseball and soccer aren't ever going to affect the size of either school's fan base.

I am tired of coaches telling us what rank we are in recruiting for football and how we have done this and that BUT we still lose critical games each year. Critical games is not just losing to the coots. We had Fla St. here in a critical game and Dabo did not have any answers.
Now look at some other critical losses in the past few years and THEN the damm losses to coots REALLY #### people off and now we have to listen to them chant "Just like football" during the loss in baseball. All the errors and walks in the last two games has to be a ### record of some kind! We play them home today and please just stop the errors and walks! We can beat them if we just play sound baseball!

You are wrong and Bill is right. I have been a Tiger since 1950 and I have never seen anything like the number of coot caps, t-shirts, jackets, bumper stickers, etc. I live in Sumter and we are overrun with coots, some because of USC Sumter, but a lot has to do with the success the coots are having in Baseball and football. Baseball is a lot bigger than it used to be, with the regionals and college world series being televised. I am an older man who is hoping that this slide will end before I leave this planet.

You're right about more coot fans because of baseball...

Mar 2, 2014, 11:08 AM

but you're wrong when it comes to the popularity of college baseball. Outside of the state of SC, nobody knows how either Clemson or South Carolina is doing in baseball. College baseball is getting televised not because of growing popularity, but because the growing number of sports cable channels. ESPN has like 10 different channels. ESPN was producing failed show after failed show for their daytime lineup, so it was much cheaper to air college baseball games rather than throwing money at another failed. Fox Sports has Fox Sports 1 and the Regional Fox Sports channels. Women's college basketball is more popular than baseball.

If they had not won the CWS baseball would have no effect

Mar 2, 2014, 11:24 AM

They could have beat us for 20 straight years in baseball but they won the CWS against us and it was plastered across the news everyday for months. Every redneck meth addicted idiot from Seneca to Beaufort that wasn't a Clemson fan jumped on their bandwagon. When we get back to winning and the way things should be they can keep those fans.

NOONE cares about soccer. Baseball is WAY bigger

Mar 2, 2014, 10:44 AM

and USC owns us in 2 of the 3 sports that matter to the fanbases.
