Bear Bryant had two 6-5 seasons in the late 60s

Nov 28, 2022, 9:51 PM

I imagine Bama fans, like many of you, weren't at all happy after those two seasons. But he won three national championships after that.

It's not time to throw in the towel. Just saying.

Danny Ford talked about being the captain of one of the worst Bama teams those years.

If those Bama teams were in the acc they probably would've won 10 games!

The irony of your post is staggering... those bama teams suffered because Bryant refused to integrate, culminating with a smackdown from the USC trojans in 1970. Black players from USC accounted for 6 touchdowns and forced Bryant to break from his stubborness and integrate his own program.

Now replace "Bryant" with "Dabo" and "integrate" with "transfers"....

Your oversimplification and desire to find one person to blame is staggering. Bryant did not take a leadership role in integrating Alabama, but George Wallace was the primary obstacle. And changing to the wishbone offense was probably more important to their success in 1970.

Success in 1971 I mean.

Good post but the pulse you have been awarded for it shows ignoramuses love their ignorance, and their hate. So sad.

Wrong. Bear Bryant wanted to integrate years before it happened, but he was not allowed to by Bama administration. He wanted the best players possible but that didn't happen until Sam "Bam" Cunningham ran over his team, and the Bama admin gave in.

He was getting significant heat during those 6-5 years, and came out saying, "There are two groups of Alabama Alumni. The big one consists of all graduates, and the small one is my wife and me. The small group will decide when I'm too old and too dumb to coach, and the ones in the big group might as well keep their mouths shut because there is nothing they can do about it."

After that he went on to some of his greatest years.

to show BAMA fans that integration was necessary to compete. Sam Bam Cunningham carved up BAMA in front of the BAMA faithful.

I agree, it's not time to throw in the towel but Dabo must grow and evolve

FFS throw in the towel?

Nov 28, 2022, 10:24 PM

Is that what it means to point out the FACT that we lost a game we should have won, to our hated clown rival?

No. Just that some people on here seem pretty doom and gloom. Wanted everyone to remember down years have happened to the best of coaches.

People are gloomy because things are slowly but very clearly going in the wrong direction, and the HC is adamant that it’s our imagination. Now hopefully he’s just saying that while figuring ways to fix things. As pointed out above Bryant made huge changes at Alabama. He made a radical change in the offense, far more radical than anything Dabo has ever attempted. He also completely overhauled recruiting. So he defended himself with remarks as prickly as Dabo’s, but he clearly recognized that he needed changes fast.

Is Dabo doing the same thing? Is he publicly saying everything is fine while privately gearing up for major changes? If he doesn’t start changing stuff, then the comparison to Bryant isn’t a good one. That would mean he really has lost it and we’re in for a rocky couple of decades.
