I hear so often, who would you get to replace

Mar 11, 2021, 4:59 PM

Brad Brownell. How hard is it to get a middle of the road coach? This team finished the last 14 games 7-7, how great of a coaching job is this?

Eliminate mens basketball, or lack there of, and keep track and field. But don't let Brownell recruit. If the football team was as bad off as basketball, how many head coaches would have been hired during Brownell's tenure. And please, don't mention the phrase "he's a good x and 0 coach".

O.K. he is a "great" X and O coach. See I didn't say it.
As to the number of football coaches, I would have to say we would be going on our 4th if you give a coach 3 years to prove himself, and Brad is going into his 12th season.

So you’re suggesting we go hire a middle of the road coach that can take us to 7-7?

Sincere question:

Since, let's say, the 1960s, can you list which coaches who have been at Clemson you would consider to have been good head coaches that you would not want to fire?

The two that fit this category left on their own accord. I bet Purcell wishes he would have never left in hindsight, but that was his choice to make. Barnes being the other, but that was his wife’s choice not his.

Oddly CBB’s winning percentage is nearly as good as both of the coaches plus CBB has seen much better tournament success than OP. Not to mention he wants to be at Clemson

I had no idea that Dean Smith was Rick's wife.

BB is going to the NCAA Tournament

Mar 12, 2021, 5:43 AM

200 plus wins at Clemson in 11 years. The most wins in Clemson history. Every other Clemson before BB either left after five years for a better job or got fired for losing. Before BB, Clemson went years without winning a road game in the ACC. Clemson football fans should just stay in their lane. The 10 percent of us who care about Clemson basketball understand what is going on. This was a solid season under difficult circumstances. Clemson football fans need to go back to chasing 18 year old boys and worrying about the play calling in the spring game.

What makes Brownell hard to support is his teams break our hearts. He is the Tommy Bowden of basketball to us. Wins a few games then loses to a team we should easily handle. I have been a Tiger fan for over 40 years and it is frustrating to be high on hope for basketball and every year his teams fail to finish or achieve. I have no doubts about his character or his love for Clemson. Just maybe time for "Tommy" Brownell to go

He isn't the Tommy Bowden of basketball. Brad, as far as I have seen was not picked to win the ACC or started the season ranked in the top 10 only to be under .500 faster than a drunk coot in close proximity to their sibling. Tommy failed when he had better talent, better resources, and better leverage. Brad is fighting a uphill batter on all three and is winning more than he should.

He isn't taking top-level commitments (financial and facilities), better talent, and superior programs and then getting whooped by Wake Forest. He is doing the opposite. He is taking weaker investment and turning around a better product. He isn't failing to win big games or lose to lesser teams. He is beating weaker programs consistently, beating better programs regularly enough/ (We were 3-4 vs teams that finished above/equal) us in ACC play - then lost only road decisions at Duke/Cuse. We beat UofL and UNC this year. We are actually competitive against the power programs.

This season, BB has basically won every single game he *should* have won save for one: Miami in Greenboro. Hurt but it was not a BAD loss. It was a game where Miami played far above their season's norm. Give Miami some credit here - they had a good night even when we had one.

We just had a coach go 10-6 in conference. Better than ANY Rick Barnes season. Also Rick Barnes's best season also ended in a first round loss on the ACC tourney. Still a sweet sixteen team - shesh
