Baylor or Texas Tech

Jul 26, 2021, 12:46 PM

Wondering who people think would be better for the ACC between Baylor and Texas Tech? Either would bring the ACC into Texas and I am sure are looking to see what they are going to do to survive. First I was thinking Baylor due to name but more I have heard about Texas Tech the more I think they might be better.

Baylor? They are a small private school without much market presence.

Texas Tech would immediately be one of the largest schools at 40K students in the ACC and brings the DFW and NW Texas markets. Texas Tech has the largest fanbase of Texas schools in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

Baylor isn't a small school.

Their enrollment is around 20,000 students, comparable in size to Clemson.

They just won a national championship in basketball, and have had some good football teams. Only two years ago, they finished in the top 15. Plus, they are good academically, a good fit with the ACC in that regard.

I don't understand the fascination with Texas Tech. I'd take them over West Virginia, but I consider Penn State or Baylor a much better choice for the ACC.

Texas Tech played in the MBB national championship game 2 years ago losing in OT to UVA. Texas Tech has the best basketball facilities in the nation. Natty in track a few years ago, omaha 3 of the last 5 or 6 years, finals in golf this year, etc. Baylor is a dirty program - look up Dave Bliss and Art Briles.

Texas Tech is a Carnegie Tier 1 school. Baylor is CT2. Texas Tech is the only school in Texas with a law and medical school on campus and building a vet school. Also pharmacy school and world class atmospheric sciences department. Texas Tech is the flagship university of the Texas Tech University System.

I get you are against Texas Tech and have your mind made up. I'm just open minded to facts.

Maybe Okie State instead of Baylor***

Baylor and okie st if ND craps out. Baylor/Clemson might actually sell out lj as would okie st. Both would help baseball and softball. Definitely helps in golf.

Texas Tech has been to Omaha 3 of the last 5 or 6 years and made it to the finals in golf this year.

I am in an office full of Tech fans, so here is my $.02. Tech fans are the equivalent of NCSU fans. They come off as having zero expectations of winning at football and when they lose, it is always the officials, or the other team cheated, or some other cherry picked excuse. Overall, they are good people that know how to have a good time.

Right now its 90 degrees in Lubbock with low humidity. If you are in Clemson right now its 91 and you are sweating like a pig.

I could care less at this point what is better for the ACC. My focus is what is best for Clemson and I see no best for Clemson in the ACC based on the past decisions made by the ACC and what is now taking place in the future of college FB.

Flag this post and save it. Clemson staying in the ACC will lead to the demise of Clemson FB as we now know it. Even the bottom feeders in the SEC will have received 100 million more dollars in the next 10 years than Clemson will receive in the ACC. Maybe even more. Just think how that 100 million will further strengthen the top SEC teams vs. Clemson. With 10 million a year, the teams can sponsor NIL payouts and buy all the top talent. If the NCAA tried to stop them with rules, the SEC would sue and the NCAA would lose. I think the next step for the SEC is to abandon the NCAA and form their own Association and make their own rules that favor the SEC in doing pretty much what they need to do to rule the college FB landscape.

The SEC is playing Chess while the ACC is playing checkers.

IF, and its a big if, the ACC decides to add from the Big 12 it needs to be a pod with at least five teams all in the geographic area. It makes no sense to add one one team from texas then try to make the distance work because it does not work (see WVA as an example). A pod of five teams would carry a lot value and reduce travel by half (Ok St, Iowa St, Baylor, Kansas and TCU). Would also make us the premier basketball conference.

OSU, TT, Baylor and TCU for a ACC western Pod. Heck Houston too for that matter.

Houston might be a better pick than TCU, though I think Houston is largely a commuter school.

Neither, TCU is a better fit if the Big 12 folds.

TCU is the worst pick of them all. Small school with poor support.
