Baseball team and strikeouts

No doubt BB has gone to hit a HR or nothing attitude. That might be the way to go if you have the talent to pull it off. Clemson doesn't have that talent. The coaches have to change their approach to hitting. Example: Watch Clemson batters with 2 strikes, they don't shorten their swing or choke up on the bat. They still have the same loopy long swing. I don't know the stats but I bet the batting average is below 100 with 2 strikes. The results will be the same if the coaches don't adjust. They will score 15 runs against weak pitching or 1 run against good pitching.

Does anyone still choke up on a college bat? With the high drop numbers available, can't imagine why you would need to choke one.

is already compact. he doesn't really need to. same with Blackwell and Corbitt. That's why they are the best hitters on the team. While Wagner has a traditional swing, he isn't swinging for the fences, but still has 7 home runs. sometimes when you make contact you run into them. funny huh????

Prescott, you are correct about bat control. I used the term "choke and poke" about batting in another post. Maybe years past or in little league, it literally means choke up on the bat because in many cases at that age the bat is too big and not custom made and weighted for each kid. More recently it has come to mean shorten the swing, swing more controlled, hit where the pitch is located (if it's outside, hit to the opposite field) and etc. In other words, swing controlled and put the ball in play.

No one above middle school chokes up on a bat anymore. It's just not how the game is played anymore. Advanced stats tell you that putting the ball in play doesn't matter so much as how you put it in play. Joey Votto is basically the only professional player I've seen choke up on a bat over the last two years. Even Juan Soto stopped doing it.

Strikeouts have definitely been a problem. Not sure if you watched the game tonight but there were no HRs and 12 hits. 3 or 4 doubles so maybe they stick with that approach. During the losing streak they have seemed to rely on swinging for the fences which annoys me just like it does you. During the first part of the season they were getting more base hits , SAC flies, SAC bunts, and were better on the base paths. I hope they get back to those fundamentals and stop worrying so much about launch angles, exit velocity, and all that BS. As far as 2 strike hits, I have scored most of the games and there have been more hits with two strikes this year than last. There were at least two tonight. Now taken as a whole for the season I would guess we are in the .200-.250 range. Grice hit a two strike 0-2 (FK) single tonight.

Someone mentioned last night that it is too late to change swing angles. This should have addressed earlier. I don't know but just repeating what someone said.

They strike out a lot but they also walk a lot. They take pitches. Next time you watch us play count how many times we swing at the first pitch. I bet it will be less than 3. Baseball in general has increased in strike outs. It’s not just a Clemson problem. Just have to figure out if we strike out more than average compared to other top 25 teams.

Thought they were choking up earlier in the season. At least the announcers were mentioning that they were. If Brewer or Grice gets to 2 strikes they might as well head on back to dugout.

One stat we need to see is “called 3rd strike”. I bet Tigers lead the nation.

At least they are swinging on strike 3. Nothing I hated worse than watching Jacks teams strike out looking. I swear he coached them to draw the walk more than making contact.
Just put it in play and good things will happen.
